En la provincia de Granada funciona, desde los años sesenta,
una de las estaciones de esquí y deportes de nieve más
singulares del panorama europeo. Unas instalaciones que
inauguran su temporada invernal a finales de noviembre y que
permanecen activas hasta la primavera aproximadamente. Su
esplendor blanco se mantiene gracias a sus tres mil metros de
altitud y a su capacidad de generar nieve artificial también.
Entre sus características destacan: facilidades de alojamiento y
aparcamiento; paquetes individuales, para familias o grupos de
amigos; multitud de modalidades de ocio en la nieve (incluidas
para los que no saben manejarse con los esquís); profesorado
experto; alquiler de equipos; competiciones internacionales… y
un entorno, la ciudad de Granada y sus pueblos aledaños,
merecedores de tiempo propio de visita.
Además, al contrario de lo que se pudiera pensar, Sierra Nevada
no cuelga el cartel de cerrado en verano; para entonces la
estación se reinventa utilizando sus apabullantes características
de montaña para generar propuestas de naturaleza, de ciclismo
y carrera, campamentos infantiles, conciertos… y hasta visitas al
observatorio del Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía.
One of the most unique ski and snow sports stations in the
European panorama has been operating in the province of
Granada since the sixties. Its facilities open for the winter
season at the end of November and stay open
approximately until spring. Its white splendour is maintained
thanks to its altitude of three thousand metres and also its
ability to generate artificial snow. The following features are
especially worthy of mention: accommodation and parking
facilities; individual, family and group packages; multiple
forms of fun in the snow (including for those who don't know
how to ski); expert teachers; equipment hire; international
competitions...and surroundings, the city of Granada and
nearby villages, well worth a visit.
Additionally, contrary to what one might think, the Sierra
Nevada doesn't just hang up a closed sign during the
summer; during the summer season the resort reinvents
itself taking advantage of its overwhelming mountainous
features to offer nature activities, cycling and racing, summer
camps, concerts...and even visits to the observatory of the
Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia.
