Business & Industrial WFT and Apprenticeship Related Training Apprenticeships are a model of learning which combines on-the-job training with related instruction, most commonly from a college level, technical school. Today, we see the apprenticeship model of learning in many high-skilled career fields, such as manufacturing, health care, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and many more. In this model of learning, employees are paid by their employer to learn specific skills while on the job, while engaging in related, academic instruction. In some cases, apprenticeships are regulated by the state, and successful completion by the employee leads to a professional license. Also, the employer may choose to register their training program with the United States Department of Labor. This is a registered apprenticeship. Whether registered, or non-registered, the apprenticeship model of learning has proven to be an effective method for training today’s highly skilled workforce. Workforce Training is partnering with business and industry in developing and delivering the related instruction component for apprenticeship training programs. What is Lean On-The-Job Training? Lean On-The-Job Training (OJT) is the preferred method for training a highly skilled workforce. OJT helps the employer identify the specific steps involved in training an employee to do any job/task at a productive, and repeatable level. Upon completion of learning a job/task using this method, the employee gains the ability to do the job/task at a high level, and to verbalize and show their proficiency in that job/task, including describing why the steps involved in doing the task/job are important. In a workforce that requires specific skills, it is important that employees are performing their skills uniformly, so quality control and production/services are maintained at their highest levels. Apprenticeship Programs Your work no longer has to be unfulfilling. LCSC Workforce Training offers an exciting career path. By completing the 4 year Idaho required instructional course of study for Electrical, HVAC or Plumbing, you will be well on your way. These apprenticeship programs are offered in the classroom or by distance learning for individuals who live in rural areas. It is highly recommended, though not required, for students participating in the course work to already be employed in the trade to complete the Idaho required on-the-job training hours needed to test for the journeyman license. Registration for these apprenticeship programs is now open. Spring fees have a $15 additional charge for mandatory electronic testing which will take place at the end of the semester. This electronic testing has been mandated by the state for YR’s 1 – 3. Year 4 students will not be taking this type of exam. Industrial Mechanics perform varied skill and knowledge based functions in the manufacturing environment. Production depends on the Industrial Mechanic’s abilities to correctly identify potential problems; correctly diagnose potential and immediate problems; perform maintenance; repair or replace mechanisms; and perform a multitude of other duties. An Industrial Mechanic who has both knowledge and skill enhances safety, production and industry reputation. This course is a (5) semester course, time for completion is 2.5 years.
