Sankta Lucia is a longheld
tradition in Sweden,
recognizing the return of
light after the dark winter.
Hope Covenant Church,
at 14401 W. Ave. in Orland
Park, has been carrying on
this tradition for more than 20
Traditional Swedish foods
will be served, such as cardamom
coffee cake, sweet rye,
hardtack, bond-ost cheese,
pickled herring, rice pudding
and lingonberry, and
potato sausage. The pageant
will include the Lucia Queen
wearing the traditional
crown of candles, along with
her attendants, who also are
to serve breakfast.
chosen Lucia Queen for this
year’s pageant. Hampton is
the daughter of Charlotte and
Boyd, and the granddaughter
