Last week a group of
22nd Century Media
editors, including
myself, launched ourselves
into the holiday spirit.
Our assistant managing
editor, Megan Bernard,
pulled out the office
Christmas tree, ornaments
and various other holiday
decorations and we took
a half hour to liven up the
office.
With Christmas music
playing in the background,
and a fresh blanket of snow
on the ground outside, we
merrily decorated our little
tree. It’s been quite a while
since I had the opportunity
to do this.
See, my mother decided
that once my sister, brother
and I weren’t children anymore,
or living at home, it
was her time to shine when
it came to the Christmas
tree decorations. My mom
per year. The minimum
wage in Wilmette is currently
$11. The minimum
wage will further increase
to $12 on July 1, 2019 and
to $13 on July 1, 2020. On
July 1, 2021 and beyond,
the wage will increase by
the Consumer Price Index
(CPI), or 2.5 percent,
whichever is less.
“The Nov. 6 referenda
has an affinity for decorating,
and loves to spend
time making the entire
house look like an elegant
Christmas postcard or a
spread in “Country Living”
magazine, or something
akin to Joanna Gaines from
HGTV’s “Fixer Upper.”
She’s good at it, too, and
has stayed consistent the
last several years and not
given up control of the tree
decorations. I’m not even
allowed to place ornaments
on there because somehow
I always choose the wrong
spot. I’m not mad, nope.
Needless to say, it was a
fun afternoon at the office
as everyone put garland,
tinsel and ornaments on the
tree.
Christmas has always
been that time of year that
I personally feel goes by
too fast. I always have a list
of things I want to do for
the Christmas season and
somehow I never accomplish
any of them. I lived
in Chicago for seven years
and never once went to the
Lincoln Park Zoolights
event, and I lived a mile
from it for most of that
time. I did go to the Christkindlmarket
Chicago at
Daley Plaza once, but I’ve
never been able to go to
correctly and accurately
reflected the County’s ordinances
and were both
approved overwhelmingly
by Wilmette voters,” Village
President Bob Bielinski
said.
The minimum wage is
already in effect, paid sick
leave ordinance will take
effect in the Village on
March 1.
