10 Questions
with Caesar Plaszewski
Caesar Plaszewski is a
sophomore at Lockport
Township and is one of the
top returners on the boys
swim team.
How did you get
involved in swimming?
I’ve been swimming for
the Lockport/Homer Swim
Club since I was 9 or 10.
Ever since I was young, we
would go swimming, so I
wanted to try competitive
swimming, and I grew to really
like it.
Do you also play water
polo?
I did play last year. It was
fun. I went to a water polo
camp in the summer of 2017,
before my freshman year.
So what do you like
better, swimming or
water polo?
Swimming. I like the competition,
I like pushing yourself
so you can improve.
Your favorite swimming
event is the 500-yard
freestyle. Why is that?
I swam with one of the
seniors, Connor Hecker, last
year on the team and also in
the club season. We did a lot
of distance sets, and he said
I’d be good. So I really started
to like it.
Even the best swimmers
in the 500 take more
than four minutes to
complete the race. What
do you think about
during that time?
I think about how I’m pacing.
If I need to slow down
or speed up. It’s 20 laps,
so that’s where the counter
comes in [holding up the lap
signs]. That helps a lot.
Do you also compete in
relays?
I like to do the freestyle
ones. Freestyle races are my
main thing. In the relays,
you do push each other and
I like that, but I like doing an
individual event better.
Do you do anything to
pump yourself up before
a race?
Not really. I just focus on
the race. I just get on the
blocks, get focused and get
ready to go.
What have you learned
from swimming coach
Jason Ozbolt?

He’s helped me push
myself to go further than I
thought I could. He’s helped
me get to goals I didn’t think
I could do.
You’re only a
sophomore, but have
you thought about
swimming in college?
Yes, I would definitely
like to do that. I will see
where the sport takes me, but
I think swimming in college
would be a cool experience.
What’s the best thing
about being an athlete
at Lockport?
The support from all the
teachers and staff. If a team
or individual does well,
they always announce it.
So there’s definitely a lot of
support. I think it’s great.
