too cold for wildlife. Christine and Grant were<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tent to marvel at the glaciers. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> captain took<br />

them close to the active tidewater glacier so they<br />

could hear it cracking and moaning like a squeaky<br />

old bed.<br />

A tall man in a dark green hooded parka<br />

stood <strong>on</strong> the deck watching the shoreline. He’d turn<br />

every now and again, glancing in their directi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

But Christina and Grant were too enthralled with<br />

the scenery around them to notice.<br />

“Thank you so, so much, Mimi!” Christina<br />

exclaimed, as they walked down the plank from the<br />

boat, her eyes still stinging from the cold. “That was<br />

the coolest thing I ever saw in my life.” And she<br />

meant it.<br />

“Me, too,” said Grant. “It was really cool and<br />

really COLD!”<br />

“Well,” Papa said. “I guess we can just turn<br />

around and go home then, Mimi. What do you think?”<br />

“No way!” both kids screamed in unis<strong>on</strong>.<br />

“No way, is right,” Mimi said. “We’re off<br />

to pack up our stuff and head <strong>on</strong> to Wasilla to the<br />

dog sled training camp. Mush! On you, Huskies!<br />

Mush! Mush!”<br />
