NOV/DEC 2018 OHBELOVEDONE.COM WORDS LIKE RUBIES
full of deadly poison.”
That passage shows just how
powerful the tongue can be. It
can be used for good, or it can be
used for evil. When we go to the
Word, God clearly states how He
wants us to use our tongue.
Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) says, “Let
no corrupting talk come out of
your mouths, but only such as is
good for building up, as fits the
occasion, that it may give grace to
those who hear.”
We are called, as Christians, to
choose what we say wisely and
to think about what we say before
we say it, that we may bless,
encourage, and edify others.
You may be thinking,
How on earth am I supposed to control
something like my tongue??
“That’s almost impossible.” And I
know. It’s a constant battle. I still
struggle with my response, my
tone of voice, and my emotions
(such as anger). It’s going to be a
battle for the rest of my life.
However, ultimately, it all comes
down to your heart. Matthew
12:34b (ESV) says, “For out of
the abundance of the heart the
mouth speaks.” That’s pretty
scary, isn’t it? What you say and
how you say it is what is really in
your heart: an overflow from your
heart’s condition that comes out
through your mouth.
