In Memoriam
Stanley J. Gaynor
Longtime
Winnetka
resident
Stanley J.
Gaynor,
83, died.
Gaynor was
the beloved
husband
Gaynor
of Jo Ann nee Mass for
43 years; loving father
to Brooke (Keith) Day,
Melissa (Robert) Mastros,
Nicole (John) Butler,
Brittney Gaynor (fiance
Brian Kaminski), and
Courtney Gaynor; dear
brother of the late Donald
Goldstein and devoted son
of the late Rose and Robert
Goldstein; uncle of Barry
(Marcy) Goldstein, Robert
(Darya) Goldstein, and
Cindy (Robert) Stein; and
very proud grandfather
to Jack, Graham, Luke,
Parker, Reese, Charlotte,
Brody, Hailey, and Chase.
Gaynor was born and
raised in Brooklyn, New
York. He went on to serve
in the Korean War and was
honorably discharged in
1963. He was transferred
to Chicago and started
his career with Tishman
Midwest Management. He
was a longtime resident of
Winnetka.
Gaynor was a lover of
anything war and anything
red, a fighter, a talker, a
toilet paper and pillow
connoisseur and a lifelong
Cubs and Dodgers fan. His
collection for war movies
was unmatched; it was his
passion. Coffee ice cream,
baseball games, New York
cheesecake, and Gray
Flannel were high on his
list of favorite things. Always
the life of the party,
his happiness was telling
stories about his life and
he lived one hell of one.
Of all the people he
touched, both willing and
unwilling, he was definitely
most proud of his wife
Jo Ann and his five daughters,
while supporting him
in all his glory during his
heyday, and lovingly guided
him during their last
days together.
Everyone who remembers
Stanley is asked to celebrate
his life in their own
way, by raising a glass in
his memory would be most
appropriate. “In any event”,
Stan was THE man!
Services and interment
private with a celebration
of Stanley’s life at a later
date. In lieu of flowers,
please consider donating
Lyn (Hutchings) Martin
Marolyn
(Lyn) Martin,
formerly
of Northfield,
died
in Overland
Park, Ka. on
Nov. 26. Martin
Born in
Boone, Iowa, Martin was
the daughter of Adam Neal
and Helen (McMahon)
Neal. She grew up in Sac
visit us online at WINNETKACURRENT.com
City, Iowa to a farming
family, and after graduating
from the local high
school attended Drake
University. There she was
active in her sorority and
pursued her interests in
choral music, dancing and
theatre. Hard financial
times for the family meant
she had to leave college
after only two years, but
as someone who always
looked forward rather
than back, she took the
opportunity to move to
Chicago, living downtown
with girlfriends and working
for American Airlines.
Later she married William
Hutchings, and they
raised their daughters in
Highland Park, Northfield,
and Wilmette before they
eventually divorced.
During this time, Martin
started a career in real estate
that would last almost
50 years, working for Lake
Bay Realty in Wilmette
and Hugh Michaels and
Baird and Warner in Winnetka.
In 1973 she married
Gerald Martin, who shared
her love of travel, dancing
and music before his death
in 2000.
Martin also loved nature
and animals, especially
dogs. She enjoyed
Colorado camping trips
with her daughters; larger
family gatherings in Colorado,
Ana Maria, Fla., and
Wisconsin; long walks at
the Chicago Botanic Gardens
and on beaches from
the Great Lakes to Hawaii
and the Caribbean; swimming;
snorkeling; gardening;
all forms of art; and
painting her own still life
and landscape pieces. The
life of any party and a dear
friend to many, she will be
remembered—and terribly
missed—for her sparkle,
wonderful sense of humor,
and the myriad ways she
delighted in everyday life.
Survivors include her
two daughters, Linda
(Tom) Kelley of Boulder,
Colo.; Christie (John) Eisner
of Kansas City; three
grandchildren, Benjamin
(Rebekah) Eisner, Emily
(Jacob) Wolczyk, and
Sarah Eisner; five greatgrandchildren,
Elizabeth,
Abigail and Emma Eisner,
and June and Gus Wolczyk;
four stepchildren, Greg
(Marianne) Martin, Scott
Martin, Jill Duckett, and
Kevin Martin; her stepsonin-law,
William Gallagher;
five step-nieces and nephew,
Jennifer Hercreg, Joan
Gallagher, Jeanne Schellin,
William Gallagher, and
Jane Murphy; and her
sweetheart, Richard Trent.
Lyn was preceded in
death by her parents, her
husband, Gerry, and her
stepdaughter, Patricia Gallagher.
A memorial service will
be held at 4 p.m. Sunday,
Dec. 16 at Northfield Community
Church, 400 Wagner
Road, Northfield, Il
