Administering the educational needs in <strong>Ottawa</strong> are exceptional<br />
public and parochial options for families and their children<br />
entering PreK through high school. Additionally for further<br />
development, <strong>Ottawa</strong> is pleased to have the <strong>Ottawa</strong> center for<br />
the Illinois Valley Community College.<br />
<strong>Ottawa</strong> Elementary District 141 is<br />
home to five different schools, varying in<br />
grade levels served - with a total <strong>of</strong> over<br />
two thousand students enrolled. Curriculum<br />
focuses on math, language arts,<br />
science, and social studies as well as art,<br />
music, and physical education. District<br />
141 also <strong>of</strong>fers a program for gifted and<br />
talented students.<br />
The <strong>Ottawa</strong> Township High School<br />
district, established in 1878, stands as<br />
the second oldest township high school<br />
district in the nation. <strong>Ottawa</strong> Township<br />
High School is comprised <strong>of</strong> 102 certified<br />
members; 75% with Master’s Degrees<br />
or beyond. The student/faculty ratio is<br />
18.5:1. Students may choose their classes<br />
from more than one hundred academic<br />
courses and fifty career-oriented courses.<br />
The curriculum provides courses for approximately<br />
1,440 students <strong>of</strong> all abilities,<br />
talents, and interests. Courses designed<br />
specifically to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> this diverse<br />
student body include extensive<br />
vocational, business, and technology<br />
programs. Honors, dual credit college<br />
courses (Advanced Chemistry, Advanced<br />
Composition, and Speech) and Advanced<br />
Placement courses (Calculus, English Literature/Composition,<br />
Government, U.S.<br />
History, and 2-D Studio Art) encourage<br />
students to excel in the academic areas.<br />
2014 marked the 19th IHSA State Music<br />
Sweepstakes Championship for the <strong>Ottawa</strong><br />
High School Music Department. The<br />
IHSA State Music Championship is won<br />
by excelling in two IHSA competitions: a<br />
Solo & Ensemble Contest where students<br />
compete as a soloist or member <strong>of</strong> a small<br />
ensemble, and an Organizational Contest,<br />
where students compete as members <strong>of</strong><br />
a choir or band. With the current system<br />
<strong>of</strong> tabulating points, only one school in Illinois<br />
has surpassed the 1000 point mark<br />
- <strong>Ottawa</strong> High School. They have done it<br />
13 times.<br />
Marquette Academy is a pre-K<br />
through 12 parochial school situated on<br />
three campuses in town. A Roman Catholic<br />
School under the Diocese <strong>of</strong> Peoria, the<br />
academy serves as a college preparatory<br />
