PM praised Yasir Shah’s ability
during their meet up in Islamabad
CENTURION:
ISLAMABAD: The
Prime Minister of Pakistan
Imran Khan on Saturday
gave confidence to league
spinner Yasir Shah for continuing
his match-winning
performance in the test
series against South Africa
starting from December
26.
The PM praised Shah’s
ability with the red ball
during their meet up in
Islamabad. Khan said that
Yasir’s presence is important
for Pakistan as he
keeps the strength to disturb
batsmen with the variety
of spin.
“Yasir has been brilliant
Maintenance workers at the
been told they are likely to
lose their jobs after the
New South Wales Govet
announced they will demolish
Allianz Stadium in a few
weeks time.
The shock news came on
Monday, with workers told
by SCG Trust management
that unless they could convince
them otherwise, Friday
would be their last day.
with the ball in recent
times,” he said.
They were handed a letter
which said the SCG Trust
carpenters and electricians
have been working for the
With one less stadium to
Imaad Ali of Pakistan won
the 13th edition of WESPA
Youth Cup (formerly
named World Youth
Scrabble Championship)
here at the Dubai
American Academy,
Dubai.
It has been an amazing
year for Pakistan scrabble
as Pakistan has won every
major youth title in the
world. The latest victory
completed the grand slam
for Pakistan as they have
already won all major
youth titles including the
Causeway Challenge,
Princess cup (twice) and
the WESPA Youth Cup.
Amazingly all these tournaments
were won by five
different players!
No country in history
has ever achieved such a
feat in scrabble history and
this record would be very
hard to match
The 12 year old Imaad
is one of the youngest
player to have won the
championship. Imaad was
in great form throughout
the championship and
“Our challenge is getting
ourselves to 350, 400.
If we can get runs on the
board, we know that we
can get 20 wickets and we
can bowl in all conditions.”
The emphasis for the
team is on the batting. In
recent series, they have
been prone to collapses –
while they stuck it out to
win against Australia, it
proved costly against New
Zealand. Yet, while being
very aware of the challenge
of playing against
the South African pace
attack, Arthur insisted his
batsmen travelled well.
Imaad Ali wins WESPA
Youth Titles Grand Slam
dropped only four of the
24 games on his way to
victory.
Imaad ended with 20
wins and a spread of 1694.
He was awarded a glittering
trophy and a cash prize
of US$1000.0
Why private capital is a smart tool for growth
DUBAI: Governments have
been supportive in fostering the
alternative investment markets to
facilitate entrepreneurship
The private capital markets
have always been labelled as an
alternative financing tool for companies
in comparison to the traditional
funding avenues, especially
banks. However, the global financial
crisis in 2008 was a game
changer for private capital markets.
This can be broadly attributed
to 2 factors, both driving the
demand and supply for such alternative
lending funds.
Firstly, the banking industry's
thrust to become leaner and clean
up legacy problems have forced
banks to re-evaluate less profitable
and high risk sectors coupled
with the need to adhere with
new capital requirements.
Secondly, central banks resorting
to ultra loose monetary policies
to stimulate economic activity
reduces the attractiveness of the
traditional asset classes. Both
these factors resulted in private
capital markets growing by record
levels during the past decade.
According to latest data
released by Preqin, total private
capital fund-raising grew by 10.4
per cent in 2017 to cross the $800
billion mark for the first time as
the industry remains attractive for
investors. Within the private capital
market, private equity (PE) and
private debt witnessed double
digit growth in fund raising during
2017.
According to Preqin, assets
under management (AUM) in private
capital markets have
increased by 8.2 per cent CAGR
from $3,061 billion in 2011 to
$4,925 billion in 2017. PE represents
around 60 per cent of the
total AUMs of the private capital
market as it has been the most preferred
choice of capital for companies
and promoters to fund
growth across the globe. Although
PE will continue to remain the
most obvious choice for businesses
going forward, the rise of private
debt over the past decade as a
suitable alternative funding
stream without divesting equity
has caught the attention of smart
and sophisticated investors.
According to Preqin, AUMs of
private debt have increased threefold
since 2007 to reach $638 billion
at the end of 2017 and it is
forecasted to grow to $2.5 trillion
in another 10 years.
