A sharp seam bowler
nd capable batsman, the
ookie cub has picked up
aluable wickets since his
levation to the top grade
arlier this year.
Glendenning is an enrgetic
pace bowler and
ashing batsman who pro-
Hawks’ touch football talent
impress at NSW State Cup
vides versatility and skill
down the order.
Tigers’ officials hope Manenti
and Glendenning will
return to the fold early in
the New Year as the team
attempts to lock up a finals
berth.
MEANWHILE Gordon finished
on 3-178 after their
first grade clash with Sydney
was abandoned due
to inclement weather after
57 overs last Saturday at
Chatswood Oval.
The Stags were 2-18
before half centuries from
skipper Steve Colley (84)
and Harry Evans (80 not
out) put the home side in a
strong position.
The pair added 148 runs
for the third wicket before
Ryde Eastwood Hawks Mens Open B team that reached the NSW State Cup semi finals.
RYDE EASTWOOD Hawks’ representative touch football teams showed
they are a force to be reckoned with after skilful performances at the
recent NSW State Cup Touch Football Championships at Port Macquarie.
The Hawks sent three
powerful squads with
the Mens Open B teams
reaching the finals and the
Mens Open A and Mixed
Open A sides turning in
strong performances during
the tough three day
tournament that featured
the best players from all
over the State.
Staged in hot sapping
conditions, the Hawks
competed well but were
outgunned by some powerful
opponents at the
business end of the Carnival.
Ryde Eastwood’s Open
A side had the privilege of
playing against the touring
English representative
team in round 4 of their
draw.
The English lived up to
their reputation of being
aggressive and strong in
the rucks but the Hawks,
who boast some of the
best young talent in the
country, showed their class
witn the likes of Matthew
Wilson and Tyrone Tadros
leading the way.
The Hawks Open Bs recorded
some strong victories
to advance to the Cup
Finals.
Coach Liam Liston had
built a team mixed with
youthful exuberance and
experienced hard heads to
guide them around.
For the Mixed Open team
ir was their first step up into
the NSW State titles and
although they never gave
up in any match, they’ll
return much better for the
experience next season.
The traditional Club Dinner
was held at the beautiful
waterfront Panthers
Leagues Club and all players
and officials were able
to enjoy a social gathering
and reflect on the first two
days of the tournament
- thanks to the highly regarded
Debbie Brewin for
carrying on this tradition
and to the Hawks’ Board.
Ryde Eastwood squared
off with Balmain in a local
derby Mens Open B semi
final that proved an absorbing
tussle.
The Hawks led for most
of the game before allowing
the Tigers to score a
late try to salvage a 4-all
draw.
In the drop off, Hawks’
star Jean - Louis Jones
had a chance to snatch
victory but was denied by
tenacious Tigers defence.
Another player dropped off
and it was fast becoming a
classic.
Balmain sealed victory
when they scored in the
corner and went on to
thump Western Suburbs in
the final
