If your organisation has to undertake
what might be described as IO-intensive
computing tasks then Network
Attached Storage (NAS) may not be your
first thought. Synology is now challenging
this and has launched its RackStation
RS1619xs+, which is a 1U 4-bay rackmount
NAS featuring flexible storage
scalability and M.2 SSD support. They
describe this as "ideal for small- and
medium-sized businesses to improve collaboration
efficiency." Flexible upgrade
options, including high-performance network
adapters, M.2 SSD cache and storage
capacity expansion, are available.
In the same announcement Synology
announced a new Scalable Storage
Server. The DS1819+ is a high-performance
and scalable 8-bay desktop storage
for small and medium-sized businesses
and succeeds the DS1817+, DS1819+.

If you find the need to dip your toe in
the world of blockchain you may want to
give some thought to how all this will ultimately
get managed. Blockchain
Technology Partners has announced its
blockchain management platform,
Sextant, on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Marketplace for Containers. They say it
unlocks the value of blockchain for business
and accelerates innovation by providing
enterprises with a platform that
they can build upon and ensure that they
can focus on business application development,
not blockchain infrastructure.

Partners said, "AWS Marketplace for
Containers enables AWS customers to use
the Amazon Elastic Container Services
(ECS) console and AWS Marketplace for
Containers to discover, produce, and
deploy container solutions - including our
blockchain management platform. With
this announcement, AWS Marketplace
has extended its existing benefits and features
to container products, with a rich
discovery and search experience, offering
access to a curated catalogue of trusted
software from reputable vendors."
Responding to what they describe as a
soaring demand for cloud and mobile
connectivity, ADVA has announced two
new edge devices. The new solutions
bring 100Gbit/s service aggregation to
the edge of the data centre and metro
networks, boosting capacity and flexibility
and creating a 5G-ready infrastructure.
The FSP 150-XG480 is a 1.6Tbit/s
(800Gbit/s full-duplex) service aggregation
device for the rapidly expanding
metro edge and the FSP 150-Z4806
enables data centre operators to aggregate
local traffic with a comprehensive
set of Layer 2, Layer 3 and tunnelling
protocols to interconnect through any network.
They will be available in the first
quarter of 2019.
Tufin, a provider of Network Security
Policy Orchestration solutions has
announced a cloud-native solution, Tufin
Iris. It will enable cloud operations and IT
security teams to gain visibility and control
of security policies for their cloudbased
applications. It can integrate into
DevOps pipelines to ensure continuous
compliance and business agility. At the
present time it is only available to early
adopters who register for a trial online.

book entitled Cybersecurity Essentials
(ISBN: 9781119362395) by Charles J.

and Donald Short may be worth a look.
It's described as an easy-to-use, comprehensive

Riverbed has announced "significant
enhancements and new subscription pricing"
for its SD-WAN solution. They
include, enterprise-class routing, subscription-based
pricing, and in-field
upgrades. The firm claims it is delivering
the most powerful and complete WAN
Edge solution in the market, integrating
advanced SD-WAN functionality with
industry-leading application acceleration,
security and visibility capabilities within a
