Target Audience:<br />
The <strong>Minimally</strong> <strong>Invasive</strong> <strong>Surgery</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> (<strong>MISS</strong>) is designed for general, colorectal, and<br />
bariatric surgeons with laparoscopic and open skills. Surgical residents and fellows are<br />
welcome at reduced rates. For the <strong>Bariatric</strong>/Metabolic Program, an interdisciplinary approach<br />
is utilized and all members of the bariatric team are encouraged to attend, including NPs, PAs,<br />
RNs, and other practice managers.<br />
Physician Credit Designation:<br />
The University of Cincinnati designates this live activity for a maximum of 29.0 AMA PRA<br />
Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent<br />
of their participation in the activity.<br />
Course Description:<br />
The Annual <strong>Minimally</strong> <strong>Invasive</strong> <strong>Surgery</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> (<strong>MISS</strong>) will offer compelling lectures,<br />
surgical video presentations, and lively discussion and debate by world-renowned experts on<br />
advanced laparoscopic techniques for managing metabolic disorders, hernia, foregut and<br />
diseases of the colon. <strong>MISS</strong> also offers a special section on Enhanced Recovery after <strong>Surgery</strong>.<br />

Colon Program:<br />
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the management of benign surgical disease, including<br />
diverticulitis, in ammatory bowel disease and lower gastrointestinal bleeding.<br />
• Summarize quality metrics and best practices as it pertains to the practice of colorectal<br />
surgery.<br />
• Describe the available strategies to improve perioperative outcomes.<br />
• Classify the different techniques of anastomotic creation and the potential ways to avoid and<br />
treat anastomotic leaks.<br />
• Identify the different options for minimally invasive abdominal procedures including<br />
laparoscopy, hand assisted techniques, the use of the robot.<br />
Enhanced Recovery:<br />
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:<br />
• Recognize the science and evidence supporting best practices in Enhanced Recovery to<br />
optimize their patient outcomes.<br />
• Develop a functional knowledge of core Enhanced Recovery elements, understanding how<br />
several targets vary from traditional practices.<br />
• Summarize the challenges facing the adoption of Enhanced Recovery programs.<br />
Hernia Program:<br />

• List the current common techniques for inguinal hernia repair.<br />
• Describe effective management of diastasis recti.<br />

• Analyze the ef cacy of current obesity management strategies, including lifestyle, diets,<br />
pharmacology, and surgery.<br />
• Diagnose and treat comorbidities associated with obesity including cancers, diabetes, and<br />
