Year in Review 2018
Student achievements
make 2018 a ‘great
year to be a Porter’
Todd Wernet
D205 Superintendent
Hello District 205 residents!
This past year was
marked with many outstanding
achievements and student
accomplishments, making
2018 truly a great year to be
a Porter.
Academically, LTHS continues
to demonstrate its
status as a top comprehensive
high school. The 2018
Illinois School Report Card
data shows LTHS continuing
to trend positive in many areas
including graduation rate,
ninth-grade students on track,
and the number of students
earning college course credit
through Advanced Placement
and dual-credit courses.
The overall graduation
rate for the class of 2018 increased
to 95 percent with
subgroup percentages of 93
percent for Hispanics and
an LTHS-high for black
students at 98 percent. During
the 2017-2018 school
year, LTHS enrolled 1,235
students in 23 Advanced
Placement courses and 16
dual-credit courses, providing
students with multiple
opportunities to earn college
credit while still at LTHS. In
September, the National and
Illinois Association of Career
and Technical Education visited
LTHS to highlight our
programs and class offerings
and to recognize us as
a leader in the Chicagoland
area for career and technical
education.
During 2018, 11 students
achieved Commended Student
status for their achievement
in the National Merit
Scholarship program and
Programs at new Township building continue to increase
Ron Alberico
Township Supervisor
The Township has once
again had a very busy and
productive year.
We had the ribbon cutting
for Meals on Wheels and are
waiting to get a start date
from them. We have partnered
with AARP, and they
utilize space in our building
to hold informative classes
for seniors twice per month.
This has had a great turnout
already and we have just begun.
We have an art gallery in
our hallways that features art
from our local schools. This
is changed out about once a
month as new art is received.
We held a mid-year mini
expo. Lions Club was one of
the vendors, as the club gave
eye tests. Walgreens was here
to administer flu shots, and
we also had the shred truck,
which is always a big hit.
We had Trunk & Treat
again this year, and the turnout
was great! Candy was given
outside from the trunks of
the decorated vehicles and in
each of the decorated rooms.
The children had games inside
and won prizes. Food could
be purchased from a choice of
two food trucks in the parking
lot. Great job to the people in
the assessor’s office. A special
thank you to Stefanie for all of
her hard work.
A big thank you to Louis
Flores for building our Share
Library and Mark Mason for
putting the finishing touches
on it. This is located outside
the building. Please feel free
to borrow and donate books.
Lockport Township Clerk
Denise Mushro-Rumchak’s
office had a record number
of 1,789 early voters for the
Nov. 6 election.
The Clerk’s office has enhanced
a new user-friendly
website for the residents of
Lockport Township. Please
look for our new website
coming soon at www.lock
porttownship.com.
We are also excited to announce
a partnership with
United Way of Will County
to allow us to provide essential
items for families in
need such as: diapers, wipes,
diaper cream, baby wash and
lotion. A Community Baby
Shower event was held on
Sept. 16 in the Township’s
Community Center.
We at the Township have
partnered with the Limestone
Theater group as well as hosting
Allegro and the Lockport-Homer
Glen youth theater
groups. The plays held
here have been very successful.
Tickets for Limestone
Theater can be purchased
online at their website, www.
limestonestage.org.
The food pantry is a welcomed
addition to our facility.
The hours are 8:30-11:30
a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays. The hours for the
Fresh Market pantry are 11
a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays.
We look forward to making
2019 even more successful
than this year has been.
Year in Review 2018
Fairmont D89 focuses on growth, academic improvement
Diane Cepela
D89 Superintendent
This past year has brought
Fairmont nothing but great
things! We are all working
hard to assure the learning
community at Fairmont that
our students are in good hands
emotionally, academically,
athletically and socially. Our
teachers and staff have made
great efforts working to meet
the needs of the students we
serve. Without question, they
are dedicated to serving our
students each and every day.
It is hard to believe this is the
last of 2018 and that means
half of our instructional year
is over.
Fairmont students can be
proud of their 2018 academic
success! With new programs
in place and intentions set
on improvement, students at
Fairmont raised their scores
for a combined 14.4 percent
meeting or exceeding on the
2018 PARCC test. This leap
earned them a higher rank
within Will County’s public
schools, as the lowest testing
school had 11.18 percent of
their students meet or exceed
on the 2018 test. This improvement
also puts Fairmont
as the seventh highest school
out of Will County’s 26 public
schools as far as percent of
growth from 2017 to 2018.
The Fairmont community
is also proud of our fiscal
responsibility. Administration
along with the Board of
Education not only presented
a balanced budget, but also
reimbursed monies to our taxpayers
this year. We have been
able to make many repairs to
our building by sticking to
our 10-year building plan. We
strive to offer a competitive
educational environment by
supporting educators in professional
development and in
instructional supplies. In the
new year, we will continue
to seek new monies through
state and federal opportunities
while keeping local property
taxes down.
Thank you to all our extended
community partners
for this new year and for allowing
us to work for our
learning community daily.
Thank you to Lockport
Township High School, the
area grade school districts,
Fairmont Community Partnership,
the Lago Vista community,
Shiloh Missionary
Baptist Church, the Give
Something Back community,
Cross of Glory Church,
and the Joliet area colleges
and universities — Lewis,
St. Francis and Joliet Junior
— and all the small and individual
groups for the tremendous
outpouring of support
for our schools.
Finally, thank you guardians
for the care you give to
your children so that they are
ready to learn. Spend your
time this break with laughter,
love and good health. We
have much to do to continue
our “Growth for Fairmont”
moving forward. We will return
as busy as we left!
