Cantrell, 19, of 8558 Tullamore Drive in Tinley Park, was charged Dec. 14 with retail theft. According to police reports, an officer was dispatched to the 11300 block of West Lincoln Highway in response to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the security manager, who informed the officer that he knew of Cantrell from a previous retail theft that Cantrell had yet to be charged for. The security manager followed Cantrell to the bathroom. At the time Cantrell entered the bathroom, he was carrying a hand carrier with multiple video games in the basket. When Cantrell exited the bathroom, the hand carrier and the video games inside it were no longer on his person. The manager then followed Cantrell past the last point of sale and confronted him. The video games — six of them with a total value of $119.94 — were discovered wrapped in Cantrell’s sweatshirt. He was then placed under arrest. Then, on Dec. 18, the same security manager went to Mokena Police Department with video footage from Nov. 29 that appeared to show Cantrell removing video games from their packaging, placing them in a sweatshirt and leaving without paying for them. The video footage reportedly showed Cantrell stealing a total of 10 games on Nov. 29, worth $499.90. An officer contacted Cantrell and advised him to come to the police station. Cantrell turned himself in later that day and was arrested again. Dec. 21 • Narvell X. Garfield, 27, of 16453 Spaulding Ave. in Markham, was charged with driving on a suspended/revoked driver’s license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with only one red tail light. According to police reports, an officer performing stationary radar at the intersection of West Lincoln Highway and South Wolf Road observed Garfield driving a vehicle that had its driver’s side tail light out. The officer initiated a traffic stop and asked to see Garfield’s driver’s license and proof of insurance. Garfield produced a driver’s license but was unable to provide proof of insurance. A check on Garfield’s driver’s license came back as suspended. Garfield was then placed under arrest. Dec. 20 • Latanye T. Keys, 42, of 3321 W. 173rd St. in Hazel Crest, was charged with driving on a suspended/revoked driver’s license and failure to dim her headlights. According to police reports, an officer on patrol traveling westbound in the 10300 block of West 191st Street observed an approaching vehicle that appeared to have its high beams on. The vehicle continued past the officer without dimming the high beams, so the officer initiated a traffic stop. Keys was able to produce proof of insurance to the officer but not a driver’s license. A check on her driver’s license came back as suspended. She was then placed under arrest. EDITOR’S NOTE: The Mokena Messenger’s police reports come from the Mokena Police Department.
