Police Reports<br />
Teen caught shoplifting video<br />
games valued at more than $600<br />
Samuel H. Cantrell, 19,<br />
of 8558 Tullamore Drive in<br />
Tinley Park, was charged<br />
Dec. 14 with retail theft.<br />
According to police reports,<br />
an officer was dispatched<br />
to the 11300 block<br />
of West Lincoln Highway<br />
in response to a shoplifter<br />
in custody. Upon arrival, the<br />
officer spoke with the security<br />
manager, who informed<br />
the officer that he knew of<br />
Cantrell from a previous<br />
retail theft that Cantrell had<br />
yet to be charged for. The<br />
security manager followed<br />
Cantrell to the bathroom. At<br />
the time Cantrell entered the<br />
bathroom, he was carrying<br />
a hand carrier with multiple<br />
video games in the basket.<br />
When Cantrell exited the<br />
bathroom, the hand carrier<br />
and the video games inside<br />
it were no longer on his person.<br />
The manager then followed<br />
Cantrell past the last<br />
point of sale and confronted<br />
him. The video games — six<br />
of them with a total value of<br />
$119.94 — were discovered<br />
wrapped in Cantrell’s sweatshirt.<br />
He was then placed under<br />
arrest.<br />
Then, on Dec. 18, the<br />
same security manager went<br />
to Mokena Police Department<br />
with video footage<br />
from Nov. 29 that appeared<br />
to show Cantrell removing<br />
video games from their<br />
packaging, placing them<br />
in a sweatshirt and leaving<br />
without paying for them.<br />
The video footage reportedly<br />
showed Cantrell stealing<br />
a total of 10 games on<br />
Nov. 29, worth $499.90. An<br />
officer contacted Cantrell<br />
and advised him to come to<br />
the police station. Cantrell<br />
turned himself in later that<br />
day and was arrested again.<br />
Dec. 21<br />
• Narvell X. Garfield, 27,<br />
of 16453 Spaulding Ave. in<br />
Markham, was charged with<br />
driving on a suspended/revoked<br />
driver’s license, operation<br />
of an uninsured motor<br />
vehicle and driving with<br />
only one red tail light.<br />
According to police reports,<br />
an officer performing stationary<br />
radar at the intersection<br />
of West Lincoln Highway<br />
and South Wolf Road<br />
observed Garfield driving a<br />
vehicle that had its driver’s<br />
side tail light out. The officer<br />
initiated a traffic stop<br />
and asked to see Garfield’s<br />
driver’s license and proof<br />
of insurance. Garfield produced<br />
a driver’s license but<br />
was unable to provide proof<br />
of insurance.<br />
A check on Garfield’s driver’s<br />
license came back as<br />
suspended. Garfield was<br />
then placed under arrest.<br />
Dec. 20<br />
• Latanye T. Keys, 42, of<br />
3321 W. 173rd St. in Hazel<br />
Crest, was charged with<br />
driving on a suspended/revoked<br />
driver’s license and<br />
failure to dim her headlights.<br />
According to police reports,<br />
an officer on patrol traveling<br />
westbound in the 10300<br />
block of West 191st Street<br />
observed an approaching vehicle<br />
that appeared to have<br />
its high beams on. The vehicle<br />
continued past the officer<br />
without dimming the high<br />
beams, so the officer initiated<br />
a traffic stop.<br />
Keys was able to produce<br />
proof of insurance to the<br />
officer but not a driver’s<br />
license. A check on her<br />
driver’s license came back<br />
as suspended. She was then<br />
placed under arrest.<br />
