ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS<br />
WRESTLING<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Leyden</strong> Wrestling team is currently 11-1 overall and 3-0 in conference. <strong>The</strong> team is two dual victories<br />
away from securing another conference title and plans on taking that momentum into the regional<br />
tournament. <strong>The</strong> wrestling team has five ranked wrestlers and is led by number 1 ranked Dan Kiebler at<br />
215 lbs. and 2nd ranked Kevin Lewis at 140 lbs.<br />
BOYS’ BASKETBALL<br />
<strong>The</strong> boys’ basketball team has just come off a strong showing over winter break. <strong>The</strong> team has battled back to 6-7 and 2<br />
-2 in <strong>West</strong> Suburban Gold Conference. <strong>The</strong> team finished third in the big schools bracket at the Lemont Christmas Tournament.<br />
Mike Woolf was selected to the All Tournament first team and Brandon Stinson was selected to the All Tournament<br />
second team. <strong>The</strong> Eagles hope to keep it rolling throughout the second semester. Please come out<br />
and cheer on the team as they begin a four game home stand vs. Argo on January 26th.<br />
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL<br />
<strong>The</strong> girls' basketball program will be hosting a "Think Pink" game in honor of Kay Yow, the former<br />
women's basketball coach at North Carolina State who died of breast cancer in 2009. <strong>The</strong> game is on<br />
January 26th versus Maine East <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> at 7:30 p.m. in the <strong>West</strong> <strong>Leyden</strong> Field House. We will be selling pink ribbons<br />
and breast cancer awareness t-shirts. All proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow Foundation. <strong>The</strong> girls' basketball program<br />
will be honoring seniors Kim Giannini and <strong>The</strong>resa Trousdale on Friday, February 5th in their game against Willowbrook<br />
<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>. Varsity tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. in the <strong>West</strong> <strong>Leyden</strong> Field House.<br />
GIRLS’ BOWLING<br />
<strong>The</strong> bowling team is currently in first place in the conference. Additionally, we took third place at the Reavis<br />
Rock-n-Roll Holiday Tournament. Captains Rebecca Radek and Jenny Schauenburg are leading the<br />
team. We have future stars in sophomores Sara Danek and Haley Ferrari, who are both improving tremendously<br />
this year.<br />
GIRLS’ GYMNASTICS<br />
<strong>Leyden</strong> Girls' Gymnastics team is having a terrific season thus far. <strong>The</strong> girls' are currently undefeated in the<br />
conference and look forward to battling it out with Downers Grove South to claim the conference title. <strong>The</strong><br />
conference championship will be Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 A.M. at the <strong>West</strong> Campus. <strong>The</strong> girls' gymnastics team<br />
hopes that this home field advantage will give them the edge they need to inscribe their name in the <strong>Leyden</strong> record<br />
books.<br />
BOYS’ SWIMMING<br />
<strong>Leyden</strong> varsity swimmers began the season winning two of their first three meets. Senior Bobby<br />
Michalowski took home a second place medal at the <strong>Leyden</strong> Invitational in the 50 free with a time of :23.90.<br />
LEYDENETTES<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Leyden</strong>ettes are having another great season! This year, we have a young team, most of whom have<br />
never been on a dance team before. However, through hard work and dedication, the 13 girls and 1 boy<br />
have joined together to dance as one. As the basketball season progresses it is very exciting for the team as<br />
well as competition. We are very proud of the team this year!<br />
CHEERLEADERS<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Leyden</strong> JV and Varsity Cheerleaders will be competing in the Arctic Cheer Classic Sunday, January<br />
24th at Maine South <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Varsity Cheerleaders will also be competing at the Grayslake North<br />
Regional January 30th in the large varsity division. State qualifiers will be determined at this regional. <strong>The</strong> times will<br />
be posted on the IHSA website if you would like to attend.<br />
