• House sport: Continues through Terms 2 and 3 for Years 7 – 10.
• House athletics carnival at the State Athletics Centre on Friday, 29 June. Pre-carnival events
will occur during House sport leading up to this day
Students are reminded for Sport and PE to:
• Wear predominately white jogging/running shoes only for PE and Sport. The wearing of flatsoled
shoes is not allowed (eg. Nike Air Max and 5.0) for safety reasons because the grass is
wet in winter.
• Boys must wear sport shirt and shorts under track suits. Boys will not be permitted to wear
tracksuits during sport; they are to be kept dry for class and travelling home from school.
• Rain and wind will not stop sport from continuing unless there is lightning. A towel is
recommended for boys to help themselves dry after sport.
• Injured students: must bring a note and stay for sport where they will help with umpiring or
scoring, and should be wearing their grey uniform.
Mr Brendan McGrath
Head of Sport
The Cross Country team have been training hard during Term One and the boys are beginning to
look really fit as they endeavour to reclaim the ACC boys aggregate title. This year the boys have
been training at a variety of venues running between 6km to 10km a session. I have been impressed
with the turn-out at training especially from our young brigade of Years 7 and 8 who have brought
some extra enthusiasm to training and who have been matching it with the big guns in Years 11
and 12.
With many families going away during the Easter break there will be no training over the school
holidays this year, however it is still important that the boys go for a couple of runs each week of
at least 5km over the holidays. I ask that parents please encourage boys to do some of their own
training as we would hate to see all the hard work the boys have put in this term go to waste with
the boys losing their fitness over the relaxing holiday break.
On Edmund Rice Day (Friday, 4 May) the boys will once again be competing in the Murray Mile in
front of the whole school. This is a great chance to showcase the great talent in the squad as well
as give the boys some competition practice. The boys will be competing for their House and for
Wedd Cup points. There is also the opportunity to win some great individual prizes for winning their
respective age groups.
Training recommences on Thursday, 26 April next term and I expect all boys to attend. Trainings will
continue to be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:50am and I remind all boys and parents
that all trainings are compulsory and all boys must attend unless they have a note with a valid
reason why they could not. If your son cannot attend, a letter must be given to me before Mentor
that morning or an email needs to be sent to adrianc@cbcfremantle.wa.edu.au
There are some exciting times ahead for the Cross Country Squad and I am looking forward to next
term with great anticipation.
