As much as our editorial team hates to admit it, there are some things that simply are not conveyed quite as well by words. Photos purportedly convey 1,000 of those words at once. Emojis give you the opportunity to convey your affection, share a secret message or declare something is a pile of poo in a single graphic. And if you really want to spread the love, you need some color. Sometimes, images just do it better. Case in point: 22nd Century Media’s Valentine’s Day Coloring Contest, which for years has been spreading the holiday’s love both near and far, with contest entries doubling as valentines for both active military and veterans over the years. Every year, we provide a blank heart and children get creative. A few lucky entrants win prizes, and even more get to see their work in print. The beloved (see what we did there?) tradition is back. The Homer Horizon is asking children ages 3-12 to get creative by downloading the form from the home page of HomerHorizon.com to create just one outstanding valentine per entrant and send it our way. Knowledge and Prayer Series to have talk on damage of pornographic culture Event at Orland parish sponsored by ministry that has Homer churches Submitted by Knowledge and Prayer Series 2019 The Knowledge and Prayer Series 2019 will soon have an event with the topic of the violence and damage being done by a pornographic culture and practical ways to counter it for family and friends. The discussion, which is for adults only, is to be held 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, which is located at 15050 Wolf Road in Orland Park. Speakers will include Adam Fuselier, Mary Bielski and Ray Pingoy. Guests can join the Department of Parish Vitality and Mission, the Chastity Education Initiative and Dumb Ox Ministries for the evening, which will include relevant facts about the prevalence of pornographic images in everyday life and the ease of access to it on cellphones for young people, as well as a look at often-misunderstood, longterm damage that the pervasiveness of pornographic images can do to emotional and spiritual growth, as well as present and future relationships. Other aspects of the conversation will be a disconnect between the understanding of freedom and the reality of sexual exploitation and using the lens of St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body theological developments to unpack the morality of pornographic culture and how to help friends and family counter it. Resources to help one understand the brain science and harm being done to society will also be discussed. The evening session is sponsored by the Multi- Parish Respect Life Ministries, which consist of Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Parish, Our Mother of Good Counsel and St. Bernard’s in Homer Glen, as well as St. Michael, Our Lady of the Woods and St. Francis of Assisi in Orland Park.
