Dave Kraus/22nd Century Media The Scouts finished third at state each of the last two years. Last season, Lake Forest scored a 94.12 to place behind Geneva (94.94) and Lake Zurich (95.38). Geneva, which has four state championships, won its sectional with a score of 93.00, and Lake Zurich recorded a 90.5 to win the Huntley Sectional. The Scouts also finished second in 2013, the first year the IHSA hosted competitive dance competitions. The Scouts big man had a nice week, snagging 11 rebounds in a win over Lakes on Jan. 15 and then putting up 20 points in a loss to Libertyville Saturday, Jan. 19. 3. Rama Keita. The Lake Academy standout basketball player had a game-high 16 points as her team bested Regina Dominican on Jan. 17 The Lake Forest Academy girls basketball team had a clear size advantage in its matchup Thursday, Jan. 17, with visiting Regina Dominican. And although the Caxys struggled for much of the game to convert their opportunities, they continued getting the ball into the paint and to the free-throw line. Eventually that consistent low-post pressure paid off as the Caxys knocked off the Panthers, 44-30. For almost three quarters, it was a tight contest, but the Caxys scored the final five points of the first quarter, part of an eventual 9-0 run. The run increased a 23- 21 advantage to 32-21, giving LFA control for good. Rama Keita scored four points during that stretch along with Kelsi Jackson’s three-point play and Courtney Harris’ layup. The Caxys then sealed the deal with six straight points, extending the lead to 41-25 with Keita scoring four more points and Jackson converting a layup. “We started playing with more energy,” said Keita, who had a game-high 16 points. “We started talking more and did a better Courtney Harris puts up a shot attempt through contact in the Caxys’ victory over Regina. job moving the ball. But they only shot 50 percent from the line and couldn’t convert a number of shot opportunities in close. As a result, Regina took an early lead when Lola Simon buried three treys for a 9-5 advantage. The Panthers got to the basket but more often than not Lake Forest Academy sent the shot back. “I make sure I keep my hands up and go straight up without moving too much,” Keita said. “My coaches say when I defend like that, the other team doesn’t want to go inside too often.” The Caxys took the lead in the third by going up 22-18, getting three apiece from Harris and Jackson. Keita contributes in multiple phases of the game. And her coach said that’s because of how much work she puts in “Rama does everything for us,” Wood said. “She wants to be breaking a sweat after warmups. She’s a quiet leader but leads by example from how hard she plays.” Harris added nine for the Caxys while Jackson scored eight.
