Introducing the Olde Towne Depot Elizabeth Bennett 30 • November 2018
The Olde Towne Depot is a new building in Clinton that helps foster a sense of community and provide enrichment activities to its citizens. It is also a beautiful venue for events and showcases Clinton’s history. The Olde Towne Depot is a place where citizens of Clinton and visitors, alike, can learn about Clinton’s history with the railroads and gain an appreciation for the people that have paved the path before them. The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Olde Towne Depot was on Tuesday, April 24. Both David Parker, the president of Main Street Clinton, and Mayor Phil Fisher welcomed everyone. Anna Boyd Hawks is the events coordinator for the Olde Towne Depot. She manages and promotes the activities and programs, and coordinates facility rentals. According to Hawks, it was Mayor Phil Fisher that originally had the idea to create the Olde Towne Depot. “Mayor Fisher is a big history buff and values Clinton’s unique past.” The mayor states that the purpose of the Olde Towne Train Depot is to capture Clinton’s history. Fisher said, “It serves as a meeting place for groups of up to 90 people. It also adds badly needed parking spaces to the Olde Towne area. The Depot will have sound equipment for those meetings, and host events from showers to children’s groups. It will also host a Hometown Clinton • 31
