You may have a friend or relative in your life
whose birthday is February 29. Maybe they
fudge it and celebrate on February 28 or March
1 every year, or possibly they just have a megaparty
every four years. (Or they have a megaparty
every year, because why not.) So imagine
how frustrating it’d be to have been born in
the Swedish Empire on February 30, 1712, the
only day of its kind in history.
Naturally, it was a pretty complex set of events
that led to February 1712 getting two leap
days. Our modern, Western calendar is called
the Gregorian calendar, which was developed
under Pope Gregory XIII. It’s basically just a
series of improvements to the Julian calendar,
created by Julius Caesar.
While the Gregorian calendar was completed
in 1582, adoption by many countries was slow,
so it took over 100 years for the Swedish Empire
(which was primarily Protestant and not
Catholic) to adopt it. Because the Julian to
Gregorian swap included a difference of ten
days, many regions simply skipped their calendar
ahead a week and a half. The Swedish
Empire decided to roll out the difference more
gradually, and intended to skip leap days for
forty years, starting in 1700, until the calendar
was finally correct.
Except that didn’t happen because, shortly afterward,
war broke out and everyone forgot
about the leap days until 1712, when Sweden’s
King, Charles (or Karl) XII, declared that
they would forget about the Gregorian calendar
and just switch back to the Julian instead.
Since they did manage to skip one leap day, in
1700 (which was a leap year under the Julian
calendar, but not the Gregorian), they simply
decided to add it back onto the calendar
that February—meaning that February 1712
had two leap days according to Sweden’s calendar,
which gave them the only February 30
in history. (Sweden finally went through with
the Gregorian switch in 1753 and just skipped
ahead a few days, like everyone else.)
Garage Brewing Company
In most garages, you can find what people
drive. In Garage Brewing Company’s garage,
you can find what drives them — quality craft
beer.
Established in 2013, they began brewing in
what was once an eight bay garage at the end
of Old Town Temecula. The brewpub and taproom
was aptly named Garage Brewing Co,
not only due to its previous life, but to show an
appreciation to where the craft beer industry
originated — in the garages of brewers. They
have created a family-friendly environment
where their fast-fired, kustom-built pizzas and
quality, Kustom craft beers provide unlimited
possibilities of flavor while bringing friends
and family together. In 2016, they expanded
their business and now also have an off-site,
full production brewery in Murrieta.
From the beginning, they set out on a mission:
to provide top-quality craft beer that tastes fantastic
and appeals to a broad spectrum of beer
lovers. They are committed to excellence and
only use the finest ingredients, state-of-the art
equipment, and top-notch coding processes.
They maintain six core, year-round styles while
also regularly rotating in seasonal creations for
a total of 15+ beers on tap at all times. As an
independent brewery, they are free to modify
beer recipes and develop exciting and creative
spins on standard styles.
Temecula CPR Classes
Looking for CPR Classes, First Aid, BLS,
ACLS, and PALS Certification and Recertification
Courses in or around Temecula, California?
You’re probably wondering why would
you ever need to take a CPR class? Whether
you’re in the medical field, who may need an
AHA certification to work in the hospital,
clinic, or other healthcare setting; you’re a personal
trainer requiring an AHA certification to
help physically transform your clients; you’re a
lifeguard who might need to resuscitate someone
who drowns in the swimming pool; parent
who finds their child or infant unresponsive;
you’re involved in an unfortunate motor vehicle
accident and need to assist a person who
is not breathing and/or do not have a pulse;
you’re a Good Samaritan who just happens to
be in a scene where a person has passed out;
or you’re an individual who has no medical
training or education whatsoever and want to
help an individual you care about, you should
know that every year there are approximately
383,000 out of hospital cardiac pulmonary arrest.
That’s more than 1,000 a day! This fact
alone is enough for anyone to understand that
taking a CPR class is indispensable and desirable
in any medical emergency that may or
may not happen at all. However, with at least
1,000 people per day having a cardiac pulmonary
arrest, there’s a small chance that your
CPR training can make a significant difference.
