As of the last week of December, a game he created, called Balance- Buster has been published for sale through Gopher, which is a physical education, athletics, and fitness equipment company that develops and sells games and other tools for teachers and coaches. “It was awesome to see something that went from my mind onto the page of a catalog in a magazine that’s shipped all over the world,” he said. Schereck has been a teacher in the Summit Hill School District for his entire career and spent the last seven years at Dr. Julian Rogus Elementary School in Frankfort. In early 2017, Schereck came up with an idea for a game that involves balancing, team building and spacial awareness. While developing, Schereck said his main criteria for the game was safety and being able to get every student involved. “Unfortunately, in physical education, with space limitations and the class sizes, a lot of times teachers settle with just dividing the group of students in half and then having them throw at something,” Schereck said, “So I wanted to create something that is different than just dividing and throwing.” Schereck said he made sure his idea was unique from any other physical education game already on the market. And, after developing the idea for the game and coming up with its rules, Schereck was able to get in contact with the head developer at Gopher, and their development team accepted the idea as a game they wanted to pursue. According to Gopher’s website, “players balance the ball on their paddles while racing toward one of their goals at either end of the playing area. Once at their goal, players need to transfer the ball onto the rim of the goal using only their paddle.” While playing the game, “opponents can attempt to throw balls at your goal to knock off balls.
