Since becoming editor
of The Tinley Junction
at the end of 2018,
I’ve already met and learned
about a lot of great people
in the community. I’m
gradually becoming more
immersed in Tinley Park
and learning things I never
knew about the Village.
In this week’s issue of
The Junction on Page 4 you
can read about how Tinley
Park High School principal
Theresa Nolan was recently
appointed the president of
time. I had the pleasure
of writing that story and
speaking with Theresa about
her background, goals and
things she is excited for in
2019.
What stood out the most
to me after speaking with
her was her genuine love
of Tinley Park. She grew
up here, graduated from
the high school where
she’s worked at for many
years and lived there before
moving to Orland Park a
short time ago. It’s always
refreshing to hear someone
speak positively about
where they come from,
instead of only focusing on
the negative aspects that
really seem miniscule when
you look at the big picture.
I grew up in Naperville
where I attended high
school and lived before
VOTING
OPEN
Jan. 17–Feb. 10!
moving to Downers Grove
after I graduated college.
I’ve almost been in Downers
Grove for two years and
I can honestly, and unfortunately,
say that I barely
know much about it.
When I grew up in Naperville,
like most teenagers, I
complained about where I
lived until I moved away to
college in Indiana. Taking
that step back really made
me appreciate where I come
from, not just because I
went to a university in a
small town, but because
sometimes you have to take
yourself out of the situation
to have a better perspective
of things. Now more than
ever, I’m proud of where
I come from because it’s
where my roots are. Speaking
with Theresa really got
me thinking of where I live
now because I want to have
that same excitement about
Downers Grove that she has
about Tinley Park.
I’ve found quite a few
hidden gems in Downers
and try to explore where I
can and when the weather
allows. I’ve visited quite a
few trails and parks, little
shops and quaint restaurants.
It offers something
that Naperville doesn’t and
that I’m sure the surrounding
towns don’t offer either,
because each community is
unique and I love that.
My recommendation for
those in Tinley is if you
haven’t, explore different
areas of the village that you
haven’t before. I’m sure
you’ll find something that
you didn’t know existed and
make you appreciate where
you come from even more.
