tinleyjunction.com NEWS the tinley junction | February 7, 2019 | 3 Tinley Park dads, daughters dance the night away Laurie Fanelli Freelance Reporter Love was in the air at Tinley Park-Park District’s Daddy/Daughter Dance. It may have been cold outside, but it felt like the month of May inside the Bettenhausen Recreation Center as fathers danced the night away with their girls at the event. Held on Friday, Feb. 1, the evening found dads and daughters bopping, rocking, twirling and waltzing by candlelight. Cookies and punch made the event even sweeter and each couple received a complementary photo to commemorate the occasion. More fun and games were found in every corner, but the highlight of the event was the dance floor, which was flooded with happy father daughter duos. Many of the dads were dressed to the nines in suits and ties while their daughters donned beautiful dresses complimented by the perfect accessories. Tinley Park-Park District Recreation Supervisor Mary Wrobel said that seeing the fashion is one of her favorite parts of organizing the event. “I just love seeing the dads and the daughters all dressed up,” Wrobel said. “It’s a great opportunity for the dads and their little girls to spend some time alone. We try to make it a really good time for the girls. They are able to get dressed up and be all grown up.” Eight-year-old Tinley Park resident Lila MacLeod chose blue – her favorite color – for her dress for the evening and her mom helped her complete the look by assisting her with hair and makeup. She was attending the Daddy/Daughter Dance with her father, Eric, for the third year in a row. “I like it because sometimes my friends are here and there’s games and I like it because we get to do the hula hooping contest,” Lila said, noting that she is a former winner of the hula hoop contest. Eric added, “I love that Lila and I get to spend some quality time together away from the brothers and mom. We have a good time every year. That’s why we keep coming back.” Rob and Grace Boyd, of Tinley Park, have made the Daddy/Daughter Dance a tradition for nine years running. Grace – wearing a sparkly red dress and a matching wrist corsage from her dad – loves having a reason to dress up and spend time with her father. Rob enjoys how the event slows life down for a moment while giving him and his daughter another memory to fondly look back on. “Of course I love spending time with my only daughter and it’s a tradition at this point,” he said. “My wife takes pictures of us every year so we have the whole spread.
