The company alsoed debut a Kinesis Kids Concert, an interactive show for children ages 3-11 (but open to all) Feb. 9. Kinesis provides an opportunity for junior and senior dancers to choreograph and perform their own work under the guidance of Artistic Directors and Dance Division faculty Christopher Rutt and Johannah Wininsky. The 2018-2019 Kinesis ensemble is Julie Beaucaire, Hannah Bender, Laila Blum, Lindsey Economos, Ellie Hanlon, Isabella James, Jenna Katlin, Jenna Khalifeh, Stella Kustra, Bella Leon, Alex Levin, Robin Parks, Bess Perry, Kara Philoon, Natalie Ringel, Miriam Rovin, Emily Wang, Victoria Werth, and Abby Wilson. The Kinesis Dance Company presented eight student-choreographed works, the product of both individual and collaborative work of the student choreographers. “The students have grown so much over the course of the semester,” Wininsky said, “and their technique has improved but, more importantly, they are finding their artistic voices and learning what it takes to work collaboratively.” The performances also featured a work choreographed of the entire company by professional guest choreographer, A. Raheim White. A renowned dancer, teacher, and Reiki Master in the Chicagoland area, White is also a company member with Lucky Plush Dance. “I am excited for this year’s performance and the debut of our interactive children’s matinée,” said Christopher Rutt, Dance Division Coordinator and Kinesis Co-Artistic Director. “Our students love the energy of younger kids in the audience and look forward to working with them during the performance.” “Few experiences match the pleasure of watching the faces of children at a dance concert,” Theatre teacher Nina Lynn said. “The interactive children’s matinée will bring a lot of joy to our community. I see the Kinesis program as one of the jewels in the Performing Arts Division crown because it combines performance, leadership, and service so beautifully.” Hannah Bender (center) performs in the final number named “Here, Now.
