adno=STM000107932101 northbrooktower.com northbrook the northbrook tower | February 14, 2019 | 19 Poetic performances: 42 GBN finalists recite poetry readings North students participate in Poetry Out Loud Staff Report More than 1,000 Glenbrook North students memorized and recited poetry readings in front of their English classes as part of a popular national recitation contest known as Poetry Out Loud. Forty-two student finalists selected as classroom representatives by GBN educators then performed Feb. 5 in the GBN library at the school’s final for the chance to advance to the contest’s regional competition. A group of judges determined the winner of the final by formulating a score for each student. To calculate each student’s score, the judges followed scoring guidelines set by Poetry Out Loud organizers, which evaluates performers on a variety of criteria. Judges named sophomore Hannah Foster the winner. Foster advanced Poetry Out Loud top scorers First place: Hannah Foster, reading “Harold and the Purple Crayon” Second place: Zoe Shiman, reading “Dead Bodies” Third place: Peyton Reisman, reading “To the notebook kid” Glenbrook North sophomore Hannah Foster recites “Harold and the Purple Crayon” Feb. 5 at Glenbrook North.
