claim crown in Valentine’s
Day Coloring Contest

The glitter has settled on
the 2019 Valentine’s Day
Coloring Contest. And it’s
hard not to feel the love right
now.
This year, the annual 22nd
Century Media competition
brought in a total of 362
entries across its Southwest
Chicago branch, with 15 of
those coming from Lockport.
We asked children ages
3-12 to transform a blank
heart into something beautiful
and submit their best efforts
to us. And we picked
one from each age group —
3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 — to be
our winners.
Without further ado, the
winners for Lockport are
Samir Navarro (3-5), Sophia
Czerwien (6-8) and Crystal
J. Lopez (9-12). Navarro’s
camouflage-inspired design
and neat coloring stood out,
while Czerwien’s simple,
heartfelt message “I care for
you” and Lopez’s drawing
of a military member and
accompanying note stating

Winners were chosen
based on creativity and neatness.
Navarro received a $5
gift certificate to Whizzy
Puffs Sweet Spot, and Czerwien
and Lopez received $5
gift cards to Diamond’s Restaurant.

Century Media Southwest
Chicago teamed up with an
area organization to help
distribute the finished valentines
— minus the entry
form information — to nearby
veterans.
