Interested In Hosting
A Foreign Exchange Student?
Now that the holidays are over and everyone is settling back down again into their daily lives, why not consider
hosting a foreign exchange student for the 2019/2020 school year. STS Foundation is now accepting applications from
prospective host families - all it takes to host is to provide a place for the student to sleep, three meals a day and a
willingness to share your life with one of our amazing students!
Meet Emma from Denmark - Most of the time I’m a quite happy person. I’m very honest and thoughtful. I usually worry
about others before myself. Usually I’m not shy and I don’t have a problem making new acquaintances. I’m helpful
and enjoy helping others out. I also love to hang out with my friends after school. I’m not very sporty, but I still like
the thought of staying healthy, so I go for a run with a friend sometimes, I like to read books, but I also enjoy writing.
Different short stories, mostly just for me. I also enjoy dancing. It’s not something I go to, because of the not so good
opportunities in my area. I really like to act as well. We only have one drama school in my area and it isn’t very good,
but I have been in a few school plays.
And here’s Diego from Spain - I am a very active and sportive boy. I am also a very sociable person, so I think this
experience may be a good one. Meeting new people and having new friends are some of the things I would enjoy about
this experience. I’m a person who has lots of interests, for example I am always wanting to learn new things such as the
culture of other countries or even at school I’m interested in nearly all the subjects. I think that I am also very mature
and self-motivated. My interests are mostly related to sports (swimming, skiing and playing soccer), but I also have
other cultural interests. For example, I love geography, knowing every place and learning interesting facts about them.
I’m also interested in cooking. I usually cook on weekends with my father and we make really good dishes. Finally, I like
to play videogames with my friends or going out with them. We usually go to the movies or to have dinner.
If you are interested in learning more about Emma, Diego or any of our other students, please give me a call - I’d love to
talk to you about hosting! I can be reached at 832-455-7881 or at vicki.stsfoundation@yahoo.com.
Neighborhood News
Snow Day: We will be having a snow day on January 12 th starting at 2 PM.
We hope to see you there.
Payments: HOA dues were mailed out the end of November.
• Pool: The Pool is now open year around. The pool hours will stay the
same. Pool hours are Tuesday-Sunday 6 AM-10 PM. These hours will
be enforced. There are cameras at the pool and officers will be sent
out if necessary. Remember, no smoking, cussing, rough housing, pets,
unaccompanied children under 14 at the pool. The rules are posted at the
pool for your reference. Our pool contractor has informed us that he will
be giving the pool a heavy dose of chlorine/chemicals on Friday mornings
in order to support the weekend crowds. We suggest that you DO NOT
swim before 9 AM on Fridays in order to avoid any skin irritation. Thank
you for your cooperation in this matter. You MUST be current on your HOA
dues or be on a payment plan to gain access to the pool. As of now, all
of the opportunities to get your pool cards/bands have passed. You will
need an activated pool access card, pool wristbands and a signed waiver
to swim this year. If you still need these items, you will need to call TxMgmt
at 832-910-7525 for assistance. There will be a $20 convenience fee for the
management company to get you an activated pool card. You should be
able to pay this fee over the phone with a credit card. You will need to turn
in your old access card to a TxMgmt employee or pay a $10 charge for a
new card. You can pick up your card from TxMgmt in The Woodlands or
wait for delivery (could be up to 2 weeks). You will need to sign paperwork
and give them your old card in order to get an activated card and 2018
bands. If you are a new renter to the community, please call TxMgmt at
832-910-7525 to fill out a Renter’s Information Form so that you will be in
the system and able to get pool cards/bands. You must send in the waiver
that was included in your dues notice. Texas Management will activate
them from the 15 th -30 th of each month until the Annual meeting.
• Décor of The Season: Copperbrook is happy to announce we will be
awarding trophies 4 times throughout the year now! Best Spring yard will
be judged on April 15 th or later. Best Summer yard will be judged on July
15 th or later. Best Halloween yard will be judged on October 31 st and best
Christmas yard will be judged on December 25 th . So, keep those yards
looking great so you can earn bragging rights!
• Alarm Permits: Our contracted officers have asked that we remind our
residents that it is a requirement by Harris County that you register your
alarm system with the County. It is $35 to get a new permit and $10 to
renew it each year. The fees are waived if you are over 65, but you must
still register your alarm. Residents face a $75 false alarm fee if officers
respond to your alarm and it isn’t registered. You can get details about
registering your alarm here: www.hcsoalarmpermit.com.
• Crime Alert: Residents need to know that there has been a marked
increase in crime in our community and surrounding areas, including
recent car burglaries and a burglary/assault in March 2018. Harris County
MUD 130 pays for the contract officers for our community. They are being
extra vigilant and are aware of the increase in activity in recent months.
Copperbrook appreciates our officer’s efforts, but we as residents MUST
do our part as well. Upon speaking to one of our contract deputies at the
December Board meeting, he indicated that the flood lights above the
garage that are motion activated, are a great deterrent and a great way
to alert officers to movement when they are making their rounds at night.
We would like to encourage neighbors to protect each other’s lives and
property by watching for and reporting suspicious activities... the residents
become the “eyes” of the patrolling deputies. If you see something, SAY
something! The object is to prevent a crime from happening by having
a deputy check out even the slightest irregularity in your street’s normal
routine. Our deputies would prefer to spend 10 minutes checking out a call
rather than follow up on a crime that has already been committed. Please
don’t hesitate to call 911 when you see anything suspicious. And PLEASE
lock your cars and remove all valuables! If you would like to learn more
about crime in the area, visit www.crimereports.com for information.
• Violation/Past Due letters: Simply stated, if you get a violation letter or
you are past due in your HOA dues, PLEASE call the TXMGMT at 832-910-
7525 to discuss a payment plan or get an extension on a needed repair
to your property. The management company and Board of Directors are
not unreasonable and will make every reasonable effort to work with
residents if you will make an effort on your part to either initiate the repairs
or pay the fines, whichever the case. Communication is simple and vital
to keeping the issue from escalating. The Board of Directors along with
TXMGMT plan to be consistent and proactive in keeping our community
looking great, feeling safe and making sure dues and fines are collected in
a timely manner and homes and yards are kept up to a standard to which
we can all be proud. If you need a copy of the deed restrictions, please
email copperbrookhoa@gmail.com and we will send you a copy.
• TXMGMT Website: TXMGMT has a website for homeowners! REGISTER
TODAY! On the website, you can notify the management company about
maintenance needs in the common areas, obtain information about
maintenance contractors, community events and access your homeowner
account balance online and pay your annual HOA dues 24/7. TXMGMT also
uses this website to post and send important announcements of interest
to your community, so be sure to sign up TODAY. All homeowners should
have received a letter from TXMGMT with a private security code needed
to create an account. To begin to access these services for the first time,
go to www3.senearthco.com then click on the “Create Your Account”
link and enter your personal information-enter your email address
(which becomes your User Name), the Password of your choice and the
Security Key (provided in the mailed letter from TXMGMT). If you did not
get a letter, please call 832-910-7525. Please take time to learn how the
information and links can enhance your association lifestyle. Please
direct any comments or questions to: Service@txmgmt.com.
• Management Company: Our management company for our community is
TXMGMT LLC and our manager is Juan Galvan. Questions about payments,
deed restrictions, improvements to your property, violation issues or just
general inquiries should be directed to TXMGMT. They can be reached at
832-910-7525. Their mailing address is P.O. Box 9184, The Woodlands, TX
77387. They can also be reached by email at service@txmgmt.com.
• Next Door App: This is a free app so homeowners can communicate
instantly with one another. This app can be used to request referrals from
other homeowners such as plumber, landscaper or a fence company. You
can also post lost or found pets, report suspicious vehicle or person in
the neighborhood. All you need to do is download the app and enter the
information they request. The information that is requested is the same
information you can already obtain online so do not let this deter you
from looking into the app.
• Monthly Meeting: Copperbrook HOA would like to welcome all
homeowners to come to our monthly meetings at La Madeleine the first
Tuesday of every month at 5 PM. The open session where we welcome
residents to attend starts at 6 PM. If the door to the meeting room is
closed, simply knock and the Board will let you in. Please come share your
ideas and learn of the progress on the latest projects and events in our
neighborhood. It’s a great way to get involved and stay connected to your
community. If you know ahead of time that you will attend or you have a
particular concern that you would like added to the agenda, please call
Juan at TXMGMT (832-910-7525).
Renovations
We are aware that on occasion homeowners receive letters from
the management company that are considered unwarranted by the
homeowner. If you plan to do a small renovation or do major cleaning
and you know that you may have something unsightly in your driveway/
front yard for a short period of time, please call TXMGMT (832-910-7525)
and make them aware of your activities so that she can make a note on
your account in order to avoid a letter being sent out. If you are planning
a major renovation to the exterior of your home by painting your house,
replacing your fence or adding storage to your yard, remember to contact
our neighborhood’s Architectural Review Committee. You can call TXMGMT
(our management company) to inquire about the proper forms needed
to make your submission and they will gladly email the forms to you.
We hope to have these forms available for download on the community
website soon. The Architectural Review Committee will review the request
to make sure the request meets the neighborhoods deed restrictions.
The committee’s approval must be granted before making such changes
Neighborhood Safety: PLEASE lock your doors and remove all valuables
so that there is little temptation and hopefully nothing taken if they
do break in your vehicle. There have also been reports of crimes at the
new park (Charles Austin Park) and so we urge you to be aware of your
surroundings at all times. Please be alert to things such as unknown cars
idling, circling the neighborhood, increased traffic at a particular home
and driving slowly as if to stall for time. If you see this behavior, please
call 911 and report the suspicious activity. It would be helpful if you could
provide any of the following information to the 911 operator or sheriff’s
department when you call: description of the vehicle, person(s), time of
day and/or license plate number. Please be discrete and keep in mind
safety is priority. Also, if you notice a lot of traffic and multiple vehicles
coming and going from a location please call the sheriff’s office and inform
them of the high traffic volume of that location. It takes a community
effort to keep a community safe. The HOA is cooperating with the local law
enforcement in keeping this a safe community for our families.
Surveillance Cameras: Surveillance cameras are installed at the pool
house. The cameras are positioned to monitor the pool areas, the park
grounds and the parking lot. HOA Board members have 24-hour access to
view the ongoing activities of these areas. All suspicious activities will be
reported to the Sheriff’s Office immediately.
Committee Information
If you’re thinking about getting more involved in our community, joining a
committee is a great start! Feel free to attend a monthly meeting to learn
more about these opportunities. The Copperbrook HOA is looking for
volunteers for the following committees:
EVENTS COMMITTEE: The events committee oversees the newly
organized welcoming committee, which will be providing welcome
baskets to new homeowners. The event committee is also responsible for
decorating the monuments at Christmastime organizing the bi-annual
garage sales and hosting the neighborhood events such as National
Night Out and Snow Day at the Park.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH COMMITTEE: The Copperbrook neighborhood
watch committee NEEDS volunteers who are willing to drive around at
different time to help keep an eye on things. The HOA would like to add
more volunteers to provide greater coverage throughout the 24 hour day.
If you would like to volunteer, please call Milton Turner at 281-859-6044.
We could really use more patrols from 10 PM to 6 AM. Volunteers can select
their time and will be requested to drive down each street and report any
suspicious activity to the police and to inform the neighborhood watch
committee chair of any activity observed. You will be issued a decal to place
on your vehicle so as to identify you as part of the Crime Watch if requested.
PARK AND YARD COMMITTEE: The park and yard committee check the
park and pool areas to report any maintenance that needs to be done
and also helps select the yard of the season.
If you have a great idea for a committee and would like to chair that
committee, we would love to hear from you. Our monthly meetings are
the first Tuesday of the month.
National Black History Month
February is National Black History Month, also known as National
African American History Month, a time for all Americans to celebrate
the achievements of African Americans and recognize their central role
in American history.
Other countries, including Canada and Great Britain, have also set aside
months to honor black history. The month of February was chosen to
coincide with the birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln and noted civil
rights advocate Frederick Douglass. The first record of Africans arriving in
North America is dated 1619, when a privateer ship carrying “twenty and
odd” Africans landed at Point Comfort, Virginia, which is now modernday
Hampton, Virginia. The Africans were traded as slaves in exchange
for provisions.
African-American’s impact our society throughout history and in
numerous ways. Here are just a few prominent individuals we honor this
month:
• Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American appointed to the
Supreme Court. We recognize Thurgood Marshall every year on National
Maryland Day.
• George Washington Carver developed over 300 products from peanuts.
Celebrate George Washington Carver and his contributions to the peanut
industry on National Peanut Day.
• Shirley Chisholm was the first African-American woman elected to U.S.
House of Representatives.
• Rosa Parks helped initiate the Civil Rights Movement by refusing to give
up her seat on the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Celebrate Rosa Park
on Rosa Parks Day and learn more about her contributions to the Civil
Rights Movement.
• Louis Armstrong is widely known as a jazz pioneer. Information about
Louis Armstrong can be found in November on National Louisiana Day.
• Colin Powell is a 4-star General who became Secretary of State. Colin
Powell dedicated the Buffalo Soldier monument at Fort Leavenworth,
Kansas, establishing the first Buffalo Soldiers Day.
• Barack Obama was elected the first Black President of the United States.
Black History Month was created by twentieth-century historian
Carter Woodson, who believed black Americans were not adequately
represented in the study of American history. Carter Woodson hoped
for the day when black history would be accepted as a part of American
history. Formerly known as Negro History Week, Black History Month was
officially declared by President Gerald Ford in 1976.
National Donor Day
Observed each year on February 14 th , National Donor Day (also known
as National Organ Donor Day) is a day to increase awareness about organ
donation and the lives that can be saved. In the United States, more than
120,000 people are waiting for a life-saving organ donation.
Give the gift of Life. National Donor Day focuses on five different types of
donations: organs, tissues, marrow, platelets and blood. Many nonprofit
health organizations sponsor blood and marrow drives and organ/tissue
sign-ups across the nation. Approximately every two seconds, there is
someone in the U.S. who needs blood, which translates to the need for
over 41,000 daily donations.
National Library Lover’s Month
The entire month of February is dedicated to the people who love whole
buildings devoted to the reading, housing organizing, categorizing,
finding, studying and otherwise loving books. It’s National Library
Lover’s Month! Libraries provide so much more than a place for us
to enjoy great novels or to discover amazing adventures and untold
history. Yes, they help us ace our research papers and provide a quiet
space to study, but they do so much more. For preschoolers, libraries
entertain them with theater and hands-on activities exposing them to
music, art and their first friendships. Many communities rely on their
libraries for meeting space for public forums, socials, fundraisers and
classes. Libraries lend not only books but music and movies. Rotating
art displays give local artists exposure to the community. Larger libraries
provide preservation services, preserving some of the most treasured
books, periodicals and documents for future generations. Continue
enjoying your library, but consider volunteering your time, too. If you
don’t have a library card, it’s never too late! Visit your library to get one!
Attracting Wildlife
By Cheryl Conley, TWRC Wildlife Center
It seems that everywhere we look we are seeing trees being torn down
and grassy areas being turned into parking lots. Sadly, there’s not
much we can do about it. There are things you can do, however, to help
replenish some of the natural resources that are destroyed. You can turn
your backyards and even small apartment balconies into areas that
attract wildlife, butterflies and even bees.
You can provide food by planting wildlife-friendly plants. Choose plant
species that bloom and fruit at various times of the year. Like the
woodpecker, some birds will dine on insects during the summer but will eat
berries in colder weather. Shrubs and trees can provide seeds and berries
for mammals and birds while a flower garden will provide food for a variety
of insect pollinators and hummingbirds. Bird and squirrel feeders are great
to help supplement what is found in nature. If you can, leave dead trees.
They can be a food source by attracting insects, lichens, mosses and fungi.
Every living thing needs water. Birds not only need water to drink but to
bathe in. The easiest way to do this is to provide a birdbath or a shallow
dish of water. Make sure to keep it clean and be careful to use animalfriendly
cleaners! No bleach or anything toxic. If you’re fortunate enough
to own a little land, you can add a water garden or pond to your property.
Wildlife needs cover from the elements just like we do. In our area we
don’t have to worry about snow but we often get heavy rains and extreme
heat. Again, dead trees work great for some species. Planting dense
shrubs provide shelter for rabbits, turtles and some bird species. Don’t
forget about man-made shelters, too, like bath houses and birdhouses.
your world upside down!
There are books available to help you garden for wildlife. One of them is,
Texas Wildscapes by Kelly Conrad Bender. It’s published by Texas A&M.
Texas Parks and Wildlife is also a great resource. Some organizations
provide instructions and help so that your school or home can become a
Certified Wildlife Habitat. One such organization is the National Wildlife
Federation.
You can make this a family project and have fun with it. Get the kids
involved. Plant some trees and shrubs, hang some birdhouses and
squirrel boxes and decide where you want your birdbaths.
TWRC Wildlife Center is getting ready for a busy spring and we’re
looking for baby feeders. We’ll train you to care for baby squirrels, baby
opossums and baby birds so you’ll be ready to start in the spring. No
previous experience is needed - just a desire to help wildlife babies, a
great attitude and you must be reliable! Send your resume or letter of
interest to operations@twrcwildlifecenter.org.
CFISD Schools, Departments Celebrate
Giving Spirit Of Holiday Season
CFISD students, staff and community members closed the fall semester by
experiencing the joy of both giving and receiving during the holiday season
through school and business partnerships and volunteer efforts.
Among those was the CFISD Police Department, which turned a simple act
of giving to its adopted school into a large-scale project to benefit more than
150 students. Officers combined their fundraising efforts through Beards for
Bicycles - a spinoff from No-shave November - Tip-a-Cop night at Willie’s Grill
and Ice House and Holiday Bowl at Tomball Bowl. The proceeds were enough to
purchase 153 bicycles.
Students were identified to receive the bicycles through the Student Services
Families in Transition program, with each receiving a personally signed letter
from CFPD Chief Eric Mendez. Officers began delivering December 15 th , while the
Exhibit Center served as a pickup location for parents beginning December 20 th .
“It’s pretty awesome that we’re able to do that for 153 kids in the district,” Mendez
said. “We’re already setting our sights on what can we do that’s bigger and better
for more kids next year or make more of an impact.
“We’re only 108 officers but we have a very large school district and we know that
there’s a large population in our district that really could use the assistance at
this time of year. Not just every day that we work, but the holiday season when
you have kids that look at other kids and they wish they got something special
and so we want to make difference for them too.”
Jersey Village High School administration, faculty and staff participated in an
Angel Giving Tree at the campus. Becky Yerkes, associate principal and director of
instruction secretary, created tree ornaments for each person with his or her gift
wishes, and the school compiled enough gifts cards, toys, clothes, shoes, kitchen
gadgets and utensils, and technology to fulfill the wishes of 14 area families.
“The staff and students look forward to making the holidays a little brighter for
some of our families through the Angel Tree program,” Yerkes said. “However,
this year their response has been particularly heartwarming in that almost all
the wishes were filled, even the wish of an eight-year-old for a bicycle. Our JVHS
family is kind hearted and generous far beyond expectations.”
Members of the Jersey Village FFA chapter and Cypress Woods High School choir
participated in the National Wreaths Across America project on December 15 th ,
10
spending the day laying wreaths on the graves of veterans at Houston National
Cemetery. “I believe in serving others,” said Kyle Gilbert, Jersey Village FFA
sponsor and agricultural science teacher. “I wanted these students to experience
Wreaths Across America and to remember these brave soldiers.”
The student council at Andre’ Elementary School led a campus-wide effort to
collect more than 30 boxes and bags worth of supplies and donations that were
delivered to the Mission of Yahweh shelter on Dec. 14. Council sponsors brought
the idea of a community service project to the students, who put together a
presentation that was shown to every homeroom. The boxes were decorated and
placed around the school’s Christmas tree, which were quickly filled.
In addition to delivering the donations, student council officers and sponsors
toured the facility. “Their reactions to the experience were overwhelmingly
positive,” said Teri Butler, Andre’ fifth-grade teacher and student council cosponsor,
who added there are plans to make a presentation of the trip to share
with the school. “Many of them realized how much they have in comparison to
others and were so happy to be able to give back.”
Cypress Springs High School’s volleyball team collected just over 100 toys
during its banquet December 13 th to donate to Texas Children’s Hospital. The
idea sprouted from a conversation at the end of the season between Panthers
Head Coach Alyssa Laker and junior libero Mariana Romero, who mentioned her
mother’s business conducting a toy drive.
Laker tied the service project with the program’s end-of-year banquet, with
students arriving with toys in hand.
“As a coach, one life lesson I like to instill in my athletes is having good character,”
Laker said. “People you meet aren’t necessarily going to remember how well
you played or what type of grades you made, but what they will remember is
what type of person you are. It’s very important to always be a good person, even
when nobody else is around. Being around this amazing group of girls that I get
to coach, teach and pave the way for, makes me so proud. It means the world to
me knowing that they want to give back to their community and really are great
hard-working people.”
The Transportation Department held a stuffed animal drive during its spirit
week, just one of many activities it does through its’ “spirit charters” to promote
teamwork and welcome new members. Across the five transportation centers,
the department received approximately 400 stuffed animals.
A portion of the donations were provided to CFPD to give away to students as
part of its bicycle giveaway, while the remainder were given to the guidance and
February 2019 | Copperbrook

counseling department for donation. “It brings me pride to see the giving nature
of our transportation team and how quickly they respond to opportunities
to give back to the students they serve daily,” said Dr. Kayne Smith, director
of transportation. “’CFISD Spirit’ is evident in the transportation team as they
always go above and beyond the call of duty to serve and provide for the students
of our district.”
A combined effort from girls’ athletics at Cypress Ranch High School saw more
than 450 personalized snack bags delivered to Andre’ Elementary School
students on December 17 th . The idea spawned from school breaks causing
anxiety for some students who may not know when their next meal will come.
The girls’ basketball, girls’ soccer, softball and volleyball programs put together
more than 450 bags, with each brown bag decorated and filled with snacks and
food items, holiday cards, stickers and pencils.
The school worked with Andre’, which is the closest Title I elementary school to
Cypress Ranch. In addition to delivering the bags, students dressed in festive
attire and their lettermen jackets and spent time reading and visiting with the
elementary students.
“It is very important to all of our coaches that our female athletes believe and
demonstrate their abilities to be strong female leaders that excel in both the
classroom and other arenas,” said Candice Fuchs, Cypress Ranch head volleyball
coach. “In this day in age, where social media has glorified outward appearances,
our girls could not pass up the shear excitement of the youth and were able to let
their inhibitions down and be silly and great role models for the elementary kids.
Our girls read Christmas books, which then lead to conversations, which then
turned into fun dancing.”
The choir at Salyards Middle School continued its annual adoption of students
and families, expanding it giving this year to not only Owens Elementary School,
but also Moore Elementary School and Cy-Hope. The program collected and
provided clothes and gifts for 25 students.
Pope Elementary School students and its PTO donated a number of gifts and toys
to students and families at M. Robinson Elementary School.
Hamilton Middle School students and staff collected approximately 750 pairs of
socks to donate. At Aragon Middle School, girls’ athletics conducted a toy drive
Santa’s Workshop at Cy-Hope and a jacket drive for Star of Hope, while the YLPA,
YMPA and HOLA clubs collected and donated blankets to the Copperfield Estates
Senior Living Community on December 6 th .
At Cypress Creek High School, the swimming program collected 290 pounds of
food and filled three shopping carts worth of toys, donating everything to Prince
of Peace Catholic Community. In addition, the girls’ basketball program visited
Francone Elementary School, as the athletes spent time with students and
volunteered in the campus Santa Workshop on December 12 th .
For a sixth consecutive year, Swenke Elementary School families sponsored
families from Lieder Elementary School. Bicycles were among the toys and
donations delivered December 20 th .
Led by the cheerleaders and step team, Cypress Woods High School held a toy
drive that resulted in the campus collecting more than 2,000 toys. The spirit
groups teamed with Christian Deschamps, a Spillane Middle School eighth-grade
student who spearheaded an effort in 2017 to collect and donate nearly 1,500
toys to Texas Children’s Hospital.
The toys collected during the Cypress Woods drive will be donated to Texas
Children’s Cancer Center.
Boy Scout Troop 10
Boy Scout Troop 10 has a new home! We now meet at Copperfield Church on Monday
evenings from 7-8:30 PM. Our meeting rooms are upstairs in conference room #3.
Please enter through the front doors of the church, head up the stairs and feel free to
come visit us at any time!
Troop 10 has a campout scheduled for every month of the school year, which gives
the Scouts ample opportunities to earn their ranks and many assorted merit badges.
In January we went to Bastrop State Park for a three day weekend where we did a
15 mile bike ride and worked on Camping, Cooking and Environmental Science merit
badges. We also played games and had Dutch oven cobblers! The weather was perfect
for camping and everyone had a great time.
The Troop had a special outing at Stone Moves, an indoor climbing center, to work on
climbing skills and spend time together over the Holidays.
We would also like to congratulate Ryan Kubiak, our Senior Patrol Leader, on his attendance
to National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). NYLT is provided by BSA to teach young adults
ways in which they can communicate with other young adults in a constructive manner. It
also teaches ways to lead other youth and coping mechanisms for youth that may need
minor redirection under their watch. Ryan took a week of his time during the school break
and traveled to Tellepsen Scout Ranch at Bovay to attend the training.
In addition, Ryan is the Chapter Chief of the Big Cypress OA (Order of the Arrow) Chapter
and as such takes part in many if not all of the local ceremonies. We are very proud of
him and proud that our Troop is involved with the OA experience through Ryan.
If you have a young man in 6 th grade or higher that would like to visit, you can contact
us at Troopwebhost.org/troop10houston/index.htm or contact Chris Kubiak at
ckubiak95@comcast.net or 281-382-2643 or contact Taunia Berg at the.berg.family@
Boy Scouts of America -
Copperhead District
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found
in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant
in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting
helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership
skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities
that allow them to: Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build
self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards.
Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as
individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility
and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made,
peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting
through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which
help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam
Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout
Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old)
and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically
meet weekly.
Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools
including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley,
Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan,
