Serendipity Sunset<br />
Being a nature photographer, I most always have my camera gear with me wherever I go in case<br />
Mother Nature decides to grace us with good light. On this day, I was in Bend with time to decide<br />
if I was going to stay in Central <strong>Oregon</strong> or head back to the valley for sunset. One of the tools in<br />
my arsenal when I chase light is the app called TPE (The Photographer’s Ephemis) with the Skyfire<br />
add-on. I also checked in with a few fellow photographers to confirm that the valley was too stormy<br />
for a good sunset and they reported sideways rain and hail. I headed to Smith Rock State Park as<br />
the clouds were looking promising there. After hiking around, I found an area that seemed familiar<br />
to me which I later realized that Gary Randall had some beautiful images from that general area and<br />
some photographers have named this ravine “Gary’s Crack.” As I set up, a golden eagle flew above<br />
me and I knew I’d be in for a magical sunset. The colors popped long enough for me to get several<br />
shots with different compositions and this is my favorite. This was shot with my Nikon D850 and the<br />
Nikkor 24-70 at 52mm, at the camera’s native ISO of 64, f/18 and for ½ second with a CPL. I do all<br />
of my initial processing in Lightroom and polish up in Photoshop when needed.<br />
