Cimarron Annual Meeting
The Cimarron Community Improvement Association,
Inc. annual meeting will be held Monday, April 15,
2019 beginning at 7 PM. The meeting will be held in the
clubhouse located at 818 ½ Pickford. Two 3-year positions
are open for election. Mr. Jim Knebel (incumbent) and Mrs.
Karrilyn Ringnald (incumbent) will be running for election.

Yard of the Month
Our annual Yard of the Month Contest is starting back
up in April and will continue through September. The
Cimarron Community Improvement Association, Inc.
Yard of the Month Committee will choose (3) homes and
reward them for their exemplary lawn care. The winners
of the Yard of the Month will be provided with a decorative
yard sign for display indicating their winning yard along
with a $25 Lowe’s gift card. In order to qualify, residents
must be current on their Association Dues for the year.
Please note, the sign will be picked up at the end of the
month by the Yard of the Month Committee. We encourage
all homeowners to take pride in their homes and our
neighborhood this year! Good Luck!

ACC Approval for Home Improvement
If you are planning any home improvements, keep in mind that all exterior
modification to your property, with the exceptions of basic landscaping,
must be submitted to the architectural control committee. No work may
be started until the ACC committee has approved your request. This
includes painting and roof replacement, even if you’re using the existing
colors. Cimarron requires that all homeowners receive ACC approval in
order to maintain the beauty and design of our neighborhood. The rules
and regulations as established in the deed restrictions help ensure an
attractive appearance throughout our community. You can locate the

Trash Pick Up Information
If you pay your water bill to Harris County MUD #81: Collection days are
Monday and Thursday for garbage and Monday for recycling. Please
secure all garbage in the 65 gallon black garbage cart with red lid and the
green recycling cart provided by Best Trash. On collection days, please
place the carts as close to the street as practicable, facing forward.

Collection days are Monday and Thursday for garbage and Monday for
recycling. Homeowners are required to provide their own 20 gallon up
to 96 gallon trash receptacle. Trash pickup service is provided by Texas
Pride Disposal. For more information, please check out Cimarron MUD

TRASHCAN REMINDERS FOR EVERYONE TO FOLLOW
On collection days make sure to set your trash receptacle out by 7 AM but
no earlier than 6 PM the evening before. Trash receptacles/carts must be
stored inside your garage or behind the fence line at all times. They must
be stored out of public view by 8 AM the following morning. Please note
that a deed restriction violation letter will be sent out for those who do
not comply with the policy.

1. The Vacation Watch form is now available online on our website in the
left column. From this page (www.harriscountytx.gov/vacationwatch/

submitted form will be emailed to dispatch for distribution.

3. A new page named Online Crime Tips (www.harriscountytx.gov/pct5/
onlinecrimetips.aspx) is now available.
Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s office is proud to announce their
new website. Residents are encouraged to access www.constablepct5.
com, which went live as of February 27, 2015. The website is designed to
provide the user with information about the command staff, the various
divisions within the Precinct 5 Constable’s jurisdiction and various
programs the office offers to the public.

• The Precinct will be offering Crime Alerts as a way to quickly let citizens
know what is going on in their area. One you sign up on the website, a
person will received a text message or an email when important events
are taking place in the district. These alerts will only contain relevant
information and a person may unsubscribe at any time.
• The Precinct will also be offering a Citizens Police Academy. For 2 -1/2
per week over a 9 week period, instructors will show the participant
various aspect of being a police officer. Many of the classes will include
hands on participation and are available to anyone 21 and up and the
application is available on the website. Class size is very limited. A brief
video concerning this program can be viewed on www.youtube.com/

• The Precinct will be offering Operation Safe Child. Precinct 5 has
2 certified child safety technicians who are partnering with Texas
Children’s’ Hospital to demonstrate the proper usage and installation of
car seats. These technicians are current on all styles, brands, recalls and
the proper way to secure your child based on height, weight and age. The
sessions are quarterly and a person can actually bring their car seat and
child for a demonstration. A person can also request these outings to be
held in the neighborhood.
If you have a monitored alarm, make sure it is calling the Constables
Dispatch number.
Slow Down in the Neighborhood
Please be careful and slow down while driving through the subdivision; remind
your young drivers to do also. Please, be aware of your surroundings and
parents, remind your children to watch for vehicles when crossing the street.
Homeowner’s Meetings
Our next Cimarron Homeowner’s Meeting is coming up and everyone is
invited! Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month at the
Cimarron Clubhouse (located next to the pool at 818 Pickford). Homeowner’s
Quorum is from 7-7:30 PM and the Executive meeting starts at 7:30 PM.
Animal / Pet Control
Please respect your neighbor’s yard and their personal space. Remember, that
pets must be confined to a fenced backyard or within the house and must not
allowed to bark all night long or cause a nuisance to neighbors. They must be
on a leash at all times when away from this contained environment. It is also
the pet owner’s responsibility, when walking their pet within the subdivision,
to keep ALL areas free of pet debris. Please remember that cats must also be
confined. Animal control will pick up strays and/or unconfined pets.
Teenage Job Seekers
If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the
teenage job seeker’s list, please fill out the form on our website (www.
krenekprinting.com, click submissions and choose Jobseekers) with
your name, birthdate (mo. & yr.), phone number, year you will graduate
and the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you
want on your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send
emails in the summer to make sure all the info is still good and that you
want to stay on the list. If we do not hear back from you after 3 tries, we
will remove you from the list until we do. Must have parent(s) permission.

Relay for Life of Katy/West Houston
The Relay for Life of Katy/West Houston will be held on April 27 th from 5
PM to 12 Midnight at Katy City Park, 5720 Franz Road. Come join in the
fun and festivities while raising funds and awareness to fight cancer.
Our theme this year is “May the Cure Be With You.” We will be honoring
survivors and remembering those that have lost their battle to cancer.

kosher chili competition during the 8 th Annual Houston Kosher Chili
Cook-off. The event will be held at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525

kosher food event in Houston and celebrates the fellowship of the Jewish
community with a day of food, live entertainment, contests and family
friendly activities while raising funds for nonprofit organizations in the
Houston Jewish community.

a moonwalk, climbing walls, balloon artists, a jalapeno eating contest

KATY AREA SAFETY FEST ORGANIZERS EXPECTING
10,000 GUESTS FOR 4 TH ANNUAL EVENT
The 4 th Annual Katy Area Safety Fest hosted by Harris County ESD 48 will
be held on Saturday, April 13 th at Typhoon Texas off Katy-Ft. Bend Road.
The family-friendly festival will begin at 10 AM and will end at 3 PM. The
event is open to the public and admission is free. The Katy Area Safety
Fest (KASF) will feature personnel, equipment and interactive activities
from more than 20 emergency response agencies serving the Greater
Katy community. The goal of KASF is to connect community members
to the men and women who serve in these agencies as well as provide
education and resources to encourage safety preparedness. Guests will
see and participate in a variety of fun, educational, high-energy activities
such as the Passport Challenge scavenger hunt, vehicle and equipment
tours, live demonstrations of vehicle extrications and much more.
Harris County ESD 47 and Westlake Volunteer Fire Department are cosponsoring
the KASF Kids Zone, which will feature bounce houses, a corn
field maze, obstacle course and ambulance load & go demonstration.
Westlake Volunteer Fire Department is also leading this year’s Firehouse
Challenge Cup, an open competition that encourages firefighter fitness
and demonstrates the profession’s rigors to the public. Wearing full
turnout gear and Scott 5.5 Air-Pak breathing apparatus, teams of 2
will race head-to-head while simulating the physical demands of reallife
firefighting. The Firehouse Challenge Cup is open to any members
of a firehouse, including firefighters, EMTs and paramedics and admin
personnel. There is no fee to enter and the 3 teams with the fastest times
will win Firehouse Challenge Cup plaques.
While most of the activities inside the festival will be free, rides in the fire
truck tower buckets will cost a small fee. Food vendors will also be set up
at KASF selling delicious treats and eats to festival guests. Members of
School of Rock - Katy will provide live musical entertainment throughout
the afternoon from the main stage.

The Arc Of Katy Seeks Hometown
Heroes Nominations
Do you know a local Hometown Hero who should be recognized? If
so, The Arc of Katy is seeking nominations from the public to honor
two Hometown Heroes. The heroes will be honored at The Arc of Katy
Gala on May 3 rd at the Omni Houston Westside. Nominations can
be submitted on the Arc of Katy website, at: www.thearcofkaty.org/
hometown-heroes-2019-gala. Entries also can be mailed to The Arc of
Katy, P.O. Box 6133, Katy, TX 77491 or emailed to: hometownheroes@

Sleep In Heavenly Peace
Every night in the Houston area, children sleep on couches, bean bag
chairs or the floor because they don’t have a bed, especially since
Hurricane Harvey. A local chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) has
been started for Central-Western Houston, including Katy and Fulshear.
SHP is a nationwide 501(c)3 charity that builds and delivers beds to
needy children using donated materials and volunteer labor. Sponsoring
organizations (companies, churches, fire departments, etc.) donate
materials and provide 20-40+ volunteers to produce 20-40+ beds in
half-day “Builds” and SHP delivers to needy families. The half day bed
Builds are an excellent Teambuilding or Service Project for organizations
wanting to make their community better. For organizations unable to
provide 20-40+ volunteers, labor can be supplemented from Scouting
troops or high school students. Material costs for 20-40+ beds amount to
$3,500-$7,000. SHP receives requests for beds at SHPbed.org in English
or Spanish. Organizations interested in sponsoring a half-day bed Build
can contact 832-795-2759. SHP was founded by Luke Mickleson in Twin
Falls ID in 2012 and has since grown to 130+ chapters nationwide. SHP
has been reported on by Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News and by Mike
Rowe on “Returning the Favor” on the Facebook Watch Network. In 2018,
Luke Mickleson was named one of ten Heroes of the Year by CNN.

THAI BASIL
CHICKEN BOWLS
A 30-minute meal with less than
400 calories per serving? YES AND
YES!!! It’s so quick to whip up, budget-friendly,
and SO GOOD!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup jasmine rice
1/2 cup chicken stock
3 tablespoons reduced
sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons unseasoned
rice vinegar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 shallots, thinly sliced
1 red Thai chili pepper, thinly sliced
1 1/4 pounds ground chicken breast
1 1/2 cups packed fresh basil leaves
DIRECTIONS:
Cook rice according to package
instructions; set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk together
chicken stock, soy sauce, fish sauce,
brown sugar and vinegar; set aside.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet
over medium heat. Add garlic, shallots
and chili pepper. Cook, stirring
frequently, until fragrant, about 1-2
minutes.
Add ground chicken and cook until
browned, about 3-5 minutes, making
sure to crumble the chicken as it
cooks; drain excess fat.
Stir in stock mixture and cook,
stirring constantly, until the sauce
has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
Stir in basil until just wilted, about
30 seconds.
Divide rice into bowls.
Top with chicken mixture.*
Serve immediately.
Notes:
*Refrigerate for up to 3-4 days. The
bowls can be reheated in the microwave
in 30-second intervals until
heated through.

1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 carrots, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
salt and ground black pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
Heat skillet over medium-high heat; cook and stir beef, onion, green bell pepper,
carrots and garlic until beef is browned, about 10 minutes. Drain off liquids.
Stir in mustard, ketchup and brown sugar and mix thoroughly. Reduce heat
to low and simmer until sauce has thickened, about 30 minutes. Season with

1 (15 ounce) can chili without beans

In a medium, microwave safe bowl, mix cream cheese, chili without
beans and diced tomatoes with green chile peppers.
Microwave cream cheese mixture on high 1 minute. Remove from
microwave, stir and repeat until the mixture is hot and thoroughly
