Page 10—March 2019 Irish fun at Wyatt’s Pre-St. Pat’s Bash Get in the Irish spirit with cabbage bowling, wishing well and top Celtic folk rock band at Wyatt’s annual pre-St. Patrick’s Day party on Saturday, March 16. A wee bit of fun is in store with Irish contests open to all ages like Best Jig, Guessing of the Gold Coins and Wearing of the Green. A special Wyatt’s menu for the evening includes corned beef and cabbage as well as theme libations including pickle back, car bombs and naturally green beer, Guinness and Irish coffee. Go into a tuck through the straightaways to reduce wind resistance. Guide the sled over undulations as snow-covered—or not—slopes blur by, just like Olympians. Then soar through the skies at speeds up to 26 mph before coming to a thrilling stop. Both the Alpine Slide and Soaring Eagle attractions are unique to Big Bear, found only at Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain. Which also offers inner tubing, a worldclass experience at that. Unleash your inner Olympian while navigating sleds you control down two quarter-mile long cement tracks on the famous Alpine Slide, only one west of Utah.. The sleds sport ball-bearing wheels and teflon runners so snow and ice aren’t necessary, but otherwise the ride is the same as drivers whip through turns and down long straightaways. It’s a ride so real bobsledders could train at Alpine Slide and lets everyday folks get a taste of the Games’ exciting event. While most of us will get no closer to experiencing the thrills of Olympic bobsledding, luge or skeleton than we will to flying in outer space, Alpine Slide brings much of the excitement and gravitational forces of the sport down to Earth as part of a ride that never needs snow and always delivers thrills. Riders control how fast— or slow—they go down the track in the most unique ride around. Each sled carries one or two riders— typically parent with a young child. Pulling the control handle toward you applies brake and slows the sled down; pushing forward releases it and allows the sled to roll freely. Far from an amusement park attraction where there’s little or no guest interaction, Alpine Slide offers an experience that’s different every time down, since riders control their own speed. Even non-Olympians love sled rides at Alpine Slide! Each trip down starts with a scenic ride up the chairlift, where there’s stunning views of Big Bear Lake along the way. Don’t let the lake views distract on the way down though, for this is a real ride where each driver controls their own destiny and while some streak, many crawl. Bobsled rides cost $6 each, $25 for five-ride book. The new Soaring Eagle attraction is a zipline-like experience with a couple notable differences. Riders sit instead of lie down and ride up to the top tower backwards. In 2015 Masters of Puppets was listed as one of the top ten tribute bands in the world by legendary Hollywood Music Review. Dynamic stage show and precise attention to songs like “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “Creeping Death,” “Enter Sandman” and of course “Masters of Puppets” are trademarks. Tickets start at only $15. Aeromyth has toured all over the country and abroad for over 11 years, earning a reputation as the closest to the real thing out there, and is on March 23. The legendary Aerosmith sound comes to life ranging from classics like “Sweet Emotion,” “Toys” and “Walk This Way” to more recent favorites including “Dude Looks Like a Lady,” “Jaded” and “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.” An amazing Steven Tyler impersonator helps but the whole band looks and sounds like their Aerosmith counterparts. Including a Joe Perry lookalike! They’ve played the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, final Jack FM Arrowfest, and television including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and ABC’s Regis & Kelly. $15-$35. Two more popular tribute shows round out the month March 29-30. Simple Man, formerly Lyvyn Skynyrd, returns with its amazing tribute to the world’s greatest Southern rock band on Friday. Party to the music of the great Lynyrd Skynyrd with this quintessential tribute band as it recreates Ronnie Van Zant’s sound and powerful vocals and the dual lead guitar riffs that made the Southern rock band famous. From hits like “Simple Man,” “Gimme 3 Steps” and “Sweet Home Alabama” to “Tuesday’s Gone” and deeper cuts like “The Needle and the Spoon” and “Poison Whiskey,” the band captures the spirit of Skynyrd. Tickets start at $15-$35. WILD CHILD with Dave Brock’s Doors Experience is back March 30, the closest thing to reliving an actual Doors concert that there is. Doors members have lavished praise on Wild Child which for 20 years has painstakingly striven to reproduce an actual Doors concert experience from the late 1960’s. Lead singer Brock brings the voice, look and essence of the late Jim Morrison to life. He has been singing the late star’s music since grabbing the lead in the “Jim Morrison Rock Opera” produced by the late legend’s sister before starting Wild Child, which uses the same instruments the Doors were playing over 40 years ago. The band produced a 22 song live concert double CD of songs The Doors made popular along with songs from the band’s last album that were never done live with Morrison before his untimely death. The band tours internationally playing to packed venues and is a Cave favorite. Minor Strut opens. Tickets $20-$40.
