Girls ride with Olympians at Snow Pro

Nissan Supergirl Snow Pro returns to
Bear Mountain March 8-10, last year putting
on the best local snow event in years.
The world’s only all-female snowboarding
competition is back for 2019 with four-time
Olympian Jacobellis and a host of other
top female riders, competing for a World
Cup-worthy cash purse in an event that really
isn’t about the money.
Indeed Supergirl Snow Pro, held from
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-3:30
p.m. Sunday plus-pre-event festivities on
Friday, does more than just showcase top
female snowboarders. Over 100 ladies get
to participate too during pro-am
boardercross and big air competitions as
they get to ride side-by-side with the
world’s best. Registration is free ($20 reservation
deposit is refunded at the event,

idea is for pros to mentor, nurture and encourage
the next generation of
snowboarding pros.
Jacobellis leads Saturday’s
snowboardcross on a custom rider-designed
course featuring four divisions with
pros plus ages 8-11, 12-15 and 16 and over.

from bronze, and is a 10-time X-Games
gold medalist. A recent World Cup win last
month in Germany left her the winningest
female snowboarder in history.
Sunday sees the new big air competition
for the pros along with divisions for
ages 12-15 and 16 and over. The innovative
head-to-head format features high-flying
round robin, bracket style competition.
She’s not the only top tier competitor
either. Faye Gulini returns after winning
last year’s boardercross at Supergirl. She’s
a three-time Olympian—including a fourth
place finish at Sochi—and World Cup
competitor who took her first podium in
2018. Meghan Tierney is another professional
who will be on hand with eight
World Cup starts in her career.
Other top athletes include Colleen
Healy, Anna Miller, Livia Molodyh, Peyton
and Zoe Bacca and more. Including Melissa
Evans from Big Bear.
“Yes the racers will put on a show but
we’ll not have any coaches around,”
Jacobellis said in an interview right after
the Olympics. “But we’ll also ride the
mountain while the girls tag along and interact
with us. It’s a family-friendly, teamoriented
environment with top U.S. pros.

As March arrives conditions are prime
at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain,
where some 80 inches of snow fell in February
alone. Both resorts are 100% open,
even trails that don’t get much
snowmaking love, like Dicky’s at Snow
Summit and Bear’s The Wedge at Bear
Mountain. Both base area halfpipes are
open above Bear’s 13,000 sq. ft. sundeck
and between them the two resorts sport
over 100 jibs and jumps.

at Supergirl, maybe international ones at
that,” Jacobellis said. “And to find their
love of sport, this one or others. And to
develop the confidence that they can accomplish
anything in life.”
This is the first event of the 2019
Supergirl Pro Series, now in its 12 year,
the only large-scale, all-female action
sports competition series. Over 250 top
women athletes from around the globe will
compete in the events. Past participants include
Jamie Anderson, Gretchen Bleiler,
Christy Prior, Kjersti Buaas, Sarka
Pancochova, Hannah Teter and others.
