For more than 65 years, Camp Jorn
has provided boys and girls the opportunity
to become part of a special community
focused on character, values,
self-discovery and independence. Camp
Jorn YMCA is situated on a 70+ acre
peninsula in Wisconsin’s Northwoods in
Manitowish Waters, WI.
Camp Jorn YMCA has made a commitment
to ensure a positive and safe
camping experience for each child who
attends our summer program. Our focus
on character development helps youth to
grow in the areas of our four core values
– caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Campers range from ages 8-17. Camp
Jorn offers campers the opportunity to
stay for one week or two weeks at a time.
At Camp Jorn, campers will participate
in three instructional classes per day.
Other times are dedicated to cabin activities.
The cabin group participates in
activities such as trail rides, tubing, sailing,
cabin challenges, sports and more.
Evenings are a blast. We have all-camp
activities such as campfires, skits, games
such as Wells Fargo (think Capture the
Flag), Granny’s Candy, Gold Rush and
more. On closing night we have our
Friendship Fire ceremony.
Teen programs include TEVA (13-15
yr. olds) and CIT (Counselor in Training
16+). TEVA offers older campers
increased independence and responsibility,
with some familiarity of traditional
summer camp. TEVA campers reside in
Camp Jorn’s Yurt Village as a community.
TEVA campers spend part of the day
gaining leadership skills through an array
of outdoor skills lessons. Cabin activities
are focused on service-leadership and
preparing (training) for their wilderness
trip. Campers also get the experience of
outdoor cooking in TEVA’s own outdoor
kitchen. Each TEVA session includes the
opportunity to experience a wilderness
canoe or back packing trip. TEVAs will
leave camp with a greater sense of themselves
and skills to be a leader. CITs will
work closely with members of the counseling
team and leadership staff while
going through training. Their schedule
will consist of spending time with our
day camp and resident camp programs
to gain group management and youth
development skills through experiential
learning.
Camp Jorn does provide scholarships
to campers as we never want anyone to
miss out on camp.
