In the past decade, design-build firms have steadily increased in popularity.
However, many consumers still don’t understand why design-build is becoming the
new normal in residential construction.
Design-build firms are marked by a single point of communication. When a
homeowner hires a designer and a contractor, they have two separate entities to
manage. Design-build firms take this point of contact down to a single entity which
understands both design and construction.

When a separate designer is used, every idea comes with the delay of checking
feasibility and price with the contractor. Design-build firms have a designer on staff
(or as a consultant) that works to understand the client’s style and needs. The
designer then works directly with the project manager, behind the scenes, to make
those dreams reality.
HC Remodel & Design’s owner, Gary Haldeman, is also the lead designer on staff.
Gary has both the knowledge of construction and the skill to understand the needs
and style of each client.
In this recent bathroom project Gary worked closely with the homeowners to bring
their classic style into this luxury master bathroom retreat. In the client’s words,
“Best contractor experience ever. Gary came up with a creative and functional
design within a difficult design area.” We are thrilled to give this homeowner a
bathroom they love with a process they enjoyed.

Look through pictures of past projects. A firm that has a wide variety of design
styles is a clear sign that the designer understands the individuality of each client.
Read reviews with specific attention to how the firm handles communication
and issues.
Research the experience and expertise of the firm. Awards, education, certification,
and accreditation by trusted organizations demonstrates accountability and ethics.
And finally, if at all possible, see the firm’s work first hand. Quality and
craftsmanship are not always evident in a photo alone. Walking through a past
remodel gives you a much clearer picture of what to expect from a firm.
