S-G Owners Association. All residents are welcome to use the amenities at all locations. To sign up for Stone Gate amenities, residents of Canyon
Lakes West and/or Miramesa must go to the Recreation Center at Stone Gate and show them a copy of their driver’s license to show proof of
residency and then they can register there. The two recreation centers are on different computer systems and in order to use the Stone Gate
amenities, residents must sign up on their system and vice versa. Canyon Lakes West and Miramesa are on the same computer system, so you only
have to sign up at one or the other, not both.

SPRING COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE -
SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2019, 7 AM-12 NOON:
Got stuff? Need stuff? How about some extra cash? Well, then you
don’t need to go far! Our community wide garage sale takes place in
your own garage! We’ll be creating a map of all the garage sales in the
community. To be added to the map, please visit https://goo.gl/forms/

Deadline for sign up to be included on the map is Friday, March 15,
2019. The map will be handed out at the Stone Gate & Canyon Lakes
West gatehouses on the day of the garage sale. Banners will be posted
outside the community at some major locations and an advertisement
will be placed in the local newsletter. You may place signs at the entrance
to your section & in your yard to promote your garage sale. Signs must
then be removed on Saturday, March 23, 2019 after the sale by 1 PM.

At the Stone Gate SplashPad. For Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West &
Miramesa Residents Only after the Community Garage Sale at the Stone
Gate SplashPad located at 9901 Red Rugosa Dr. Houston, TX 77095. Have
a bag/box/bucket/basket full of documents you are ready to get rid of?
Got Junk Mail? Got old check copies? Come on out and have those papers
shredded securely before your eyes!
All shredding will be done ONSITE securely. No need to remove staples,
binder clips or paper clips. They will take it all as is! (Please no X-rays,
batteries or 3-ring binders). Truck leaves at 3 PM so be sure to arrive
early. Event is on a first come first serve basis as time allows. Please be
courteous to other residents and keep your shredding to a reasonable
amount so everyone has a chance to use this service.
Change of Board Meeting Locations
Residents, Please be advised that the locations for the Board Meeting
rotation schedule have changed. The meetings will alternate between
the Stone Gate Clubhouse located at 11655 Canyon Green Dr. Houston,
TX 77095 and the Canyon Lakes West Clubhouse located at 19722 Stanton
Lake Dr. Cypress, TX 77433.
The Board will no longer be meeting at the Miramesa Clubhouse located
at 20150 Miramesa Dr. Cypress, TX 77433. The Miramesa Clubhouse has
been removed from the rotation schedule. Please see the updated Board
Meeting schedule and locations below:
The Board will meet in the closed Executive Session at 5 PM and owners
are welcome to attend the open session starting at 6 PM.

Meeting dates, times and/or locations are subject to change. We will hold
Executive Session/Homeowner Hearings first (closed session-not open
to homeowners unless you are having a hearing) at 5 PM. The meetings
will then be opened up to the residents starting at 6 PM. Once the Open
Session Business has been completed, the Board will open Homeowner
Forum. The Board is trying to make sure we are getting as much business
completed in these meetings as possible in the allotted times, as the
POA is billed for the hours the Attorney is present, over 2 hours for the
Management Company and any overtime for the on-site staff to stay and
have the building open.
Parking in the Streets
Street Parking is only allowed during day hours and only if the driveway
is full. No parking is allowed in the streets overnight. If you see someone
who is in violation, please send a photo (with date stamp) of the car
parked in the street with the street address to your onsite manager.

• Gate Attendant will open the gate in the event that the EZ Tag barrier
arm does not read your EZ Tag. You can contact the Gate Attendant by
pressing #0001 on the call box at all remote gates.
Please register your EZ Tag at your clubhouse office. The Onsite Manager
will assign your EZ Tag to the entrance gate in accordance with the
section you reside in (you will not have access to all gates, only the one
for the section you live in).
Residents with an “SG” Decal Sticker (must be displayed on top left corner
of windshield): Enter through middle lane at the man gated sections.

If you need an “SG” decal sticker, please visit your local clubhouse office.

If you are new to the community, show your current Valid Driver’s License
or State Issued Photo ID and give the Gate Attendant your new Stone
Gate/Canyon Lakes West address. Gate Attendant will also record name
and license plate.
Visitors: Enter through far-left lane at the man gated sections. Gate
House check-in is required. The Gate House Attendant will require you to
present a valid Driver’s License or State ID
• Identify name and address of Resident whom you are visiting
• Gate Attendant will record name and license plate and you will be given entry
* If the Resident has opted to be notified by phone before Visitors are
granted entry, Visitors will only be granted entry if the resident answers
and confirms entry
Homeowners at remote gates can have a phone number programmed
so that their name and a code will be displayed on the screen at their
gate. Their guest will press # and the code to ring the homeowner. The
homeowner will press “9” on their phone to open the gate
Contractors: Enter through far-left lane at the man gated sections. Gate
House check-in is required. The Gate House Attendant will record the
following information:
1. Name and address of service provider as well as personnel (valid
driver’s license or state ID)
2. Reason for visit
3. License Plate
If the Resident has opted to be notified by phone before Contractors
are granted entry, Contractors will only be granted entry if the resident
answers and confirms access.
Access for contractors is issued on a day-to-day basis (must follow above

COMPLETELY clean before leaving.
A $300 Security/ Deposit is required to reserve the clubhouse/facility
* Reservations may be made no less than 30 days prior to event and no
more than 90 days in advance.
CLUBHOUSE:
• Occupancy Limit is 60 persons. (Per fire code)

Attention Stone Gate Residents, As a friendly reminder, please be advised
that the Association has changed to a NEW service provider for the Gate
Attendant and Roving Patrol services for the community. Effective today,
the NEW service provider is Priority Protection & Investigations (PPI). We
are excited to partner with Professional Protection and Investigations
(PPI) and look forward to improving the level of services provided to the

Roving Patrol
The primary function of a Roving Patrol service is to assist with crime
deterrence by staying highly visible while conducting routine patrols
throughout the community to observe and report suspicious activity
to the local authorities and/or association. The Patrol Officers also
assist with service calls within the community. Some of the typical calls
received are as follows:
• Noise disturbances
• Suspicious persons, vehicles or activities
• Welfare checks
• Property Damage
• Solicitors in gated communities
• Courtesy checks of your home (only if there are not any signs of forced
entry present)
While the officers do their best to handle most situations, sometimes
Police assistance is necessary to properly handle the situation. The
Roving Patrol Officers are not Law Enforcement and do not have the
authority to arrest or detain unless, in the rare occasion, they are
conducting a citizen’s arrest. This means that if the Roving Patrol Officers
are called out to investigate a suspicious person and make contact with
the individual, they cannot hold them for questioning if the subject fails
to comply with the request to identify themselves and/or state their
business. At that point the Officers will contact the Police for assistance
if it is necessary. If the subject flees from the Patrol Officer, they are not
permitted to give chase whether on foot or in a vehicle.

There are times were the officers are called in situations where the Police/
Fire/EMS needs to be the primary responders and called first. Some of
these types of situations are as follows:
• Speeding vehicles/reckless driving
• Crimes that are potentially violent in nature
• Domestic disturbances • Fire, flood or blood

GOLF COURSE Safety
Please be aware of the safety hazards involved in trespassing onto
the Sterling Country Club and Houston National cart paths and golf
course. The cart paths on both courses are only for golfers that have
registered through our Pro Shop. Cart paths are a means for players
to complete their round of golf as quickly, conveniently and safely as
possible. As the Stone Gate community continues to grow we feel
it is our responsibility to educate every resident as best we can to
keep pedestrians and their pets safe and away from the cart paths.
Golf balls are often hit at speeds over 150 mph and can have deadly
consequences to a human or pet if hit in the head, throat or chest.
Because the paths are for registered golfers, those playing golf are not
aware of the presence of pedestrians on the course, which can lead to
very damaging collisions with hikers/bikers and their pets. This January
I fielded a report of a pedestrian being struck by a golf ball and other
reports of residents having near miss encounters with golf carts when
traveling along the paths. Hiking, jogging, biking, dog walking, golf
cart/ATV’s not being used to play golf, skateboarding and skating
on the cart paths is strictly prohibited anywhere on the golf course
because of safety hazard and trespassing concerns. Thanks for your

CFISD Student Artists Vie For Spots
In Youth Art Month Capitol Exhibit
Eight CFISD students will represent the district as their artwork is up for
selection to the Texas Art Education Association Youth Art Month Capitol
Exhibit, which will be on display during March at both the Bob Bullock
Texas State History Museum and the Texas State Capitol Building. The
students are in the running to have their work showcased among other
artists from more than 50 participating school districts and private and
charter schools. From those submissions, approximately 115 pieces
will be chosen to be on display in March during Youth Art Month. The
exhibit will begin at the museum from March 3 rd -17 th before it’s moved
to the Texas State Capitol Building’s lower rotunda from March 24 th -31 st .
Selected students will also be recognized during the annual Youth Art
Month Celebration, Awards and Reception on March 10 th at the museum.

CFISD Earns National Student
Data Privacy Designation
In demonstrating a commitment to protecting student data through
modern, rigorous policies and practices, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD was
awarded the national Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal on Jan.
16 th from the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN).
CFISD joins 16 other districts across the nation and two others in Texas
in earning the national privacy distinction. With 91 campuses and more
than 116,000 students, CFISD is the second-largest school district among
those awarded the TLE Seal.
According to CoSN, school districts receiving the TLE Seal demonstrated
strong student data privacy practices in the following areas:
• Leadership, by providing the guidance, frameworks and resources
to direct the use and governance of student data in a manner that is
transparent to all stakeholders.
• Business, by establishing vetting processes and contracts for technology

providers that, at minimum, address applicable compliance with laws
while supporting innovation.
• Data security, by implementing strong data protection practices across
all media and auditing regularly to maintain high thresholds over time.
• Professional development, by requiring school staff to conduct privacy
and security training and offering related resources to all stakeholders in
the community.
• Classroom, by implementing educational procedures and processes
to ensure transparency and build privacy knowledge while advancing
curricular goals.
As TLE Seal recipients, the designated school districts will be required to
maintain their commitment to improving student data privacy practices
and reapply for the designation every two years. Developed for K-12
school systems of all governance structures, the TLE Seal was formed
through a collective effort from school system leaders nationwide and
program partners. Their input identified steps schools should take in
addition to regulatory compliance to help ensure student data privacy
and security.
CFISD Football Players Qualify For
2018 Academic All-District Teams
More than 300 CFISD football players qualified for the Academic All-
District 14-6A and 17-6A Football teams. All 12 high school programs
were represented by the 316 student athletes who earned the academic
all-district recognition. Those who earned the honor finished the 2018
season in good standing and earned a composite weighted grade point
average of 5.5 or higher for all classes for the two identified six weeks that
make up the majority of their regular season.
All four schools’ mascots even joined in on the fun!
Candy Cane Fun Run Generates $14K
For Fairfield Schools
The annual Candy Cane Fun Run, held Jan. 12 th in the Fairfield community,
generated more than $14,000 for the four neighborhood schools - Salyards
MS, Ault ES, Keith ES and Swenke ES. All the schools’ principals were in
attendance, along with Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools.

Culinary Arts Students Take Top Honors In Third CFISD Cupcake Battle
Mia Campos of Cypress Falls High School and Sara Mendez of Cy-Fair High School won first place in their respective competition divisions at the third
annual CFISD Cupcake Battle, held Jan. 11 th at the Berry Center. The entire competition featured more than 50 entries from 12 CFISD high schools. Industry
professionals from Johnson & Wales University’s College of Culinary Arts, Culinary Institute LeNotre, Acosta Food Service, as well as current and retired
culinary teachers from neighboring school districts joined CFISD staff members in serving as judges for the competition. The judges graded the cupcakes
for overall taste and design, while other categories included Best Cake, Best Frosting, Unique Flavor, Most Technical Technique and Best Presentation.
Culinary students prepared cupcakes the week leading into the competition at their home campuses and set them up at the Berry Center to be judged.
Top-three places were awarded in both the Advanced Culinary Arts (second-year students) and Culinary I categories. Winners received prizes including
KitchenAid mixers, cupcake pans, cake decorating kits and other seasonal items donated by partners H-E-B and Randall’s. Mendez, a senior, placed first
in the Advanced Culinary division with her black forest cupcake. Cy-Fair High School junior Noah Jasik finished second with his carrot cupcake, while
Cypress Ridge High School senior Patrick Billette placed third with his Boston cream cupcake. Campos, a junior, placed first in the Culinary I division with
her orange dreamsicle cupcake. Cy-Fair sophomore Jasmine Porter finished second with her Samoa mocha cupcake, while Cypress Ridge junior Brenda
Eguizabal placed third with her cinnamon pecan cupcake.

Cy-Fair And Cy Woods Earn Sweeps
At District Swimming Championships
The Cypress Woods High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams claimed
the District 18-6A championships for the third year in a row while the
Cy-Fair High School boys’ and girls’ teams swept the District 17-6A titles,
with the meets held Jan. 25 th (17-6A) and Jan. 26 th (18-6A) at the CFISD
Natatorium.
The Cypress Woods boys won with a score of 157, followed by runner-up
Langham Creek (119) and third-place Cypress Springs (69). The Cypress
Woods girls placed first with a score of 220, Jersey Village placed second
with 103 points with Langham Creek placing third with a score 81.
“It was a three-peat, which is really hard to do,” said Chris Pease, Cypress
Woods swim coach. “The target is on your back. The Langham Creek boys
gave us a run for our money on that side and every year, it gets harder to
do this.”
Cypress Woods sophomore Munzer Kabbara was named the 18-6A Boys’
Swimmer of the Meet and Cypress Woods senior Sydney Stanford was
named the Girls’ Swimmer of the Meet for the third year in a row.
In 17-6A, the Cy-Fair girls edged Cypress Creek for the team title. The
Bobcats finished with 146 points, while the Cougars placed second with
143 points. Cypress Ranch scored 90 point to place third.
“We were down a swimmer who was very important and the girls really
stepped up to the plate and did everything they needed to do to win,”
said Hannah Doré, Cy-Fair head coach. “Every race was key, especially
those where we were able to get those sixth-, seventh- and eighth-place
points.”
The Cy-Fair boys scored 163 points to place first, finishing ahead of
runner-up Bridgeland (125.50) and third-place Cypress Ranch (114.50).
“Each race was very exciting to watch for the boys,” said Doré, who was
named the 17-6A Boys’ Coach of the Year. “They worked really hard this
week, especially when it came down to relays because we knew we
weren’t seeded first. We really needed to step up, especially with that
last relay and they did.”
Cy-Fair junior Cameron Dafoe was named the 17-6A Boys’ Swimmer of
the Meet, while Cypress Creek freshman Hayden Miller was named the
17-6A Girls’ Swimmer of the Meet.

SIXTH ANNUAL SUPERINTENDENT’S FUN RUN
AND FESTIVAL SET FOR MARCH 2 ND
Filled with exciting live entertainment, two course layouts for running
or walking, kids’ activities and other family-friendly endeavors, the sixth
annual CFISD Superintendent’s Fun Run and Festival is scheduled for
March 2 nd , 8-11 AM at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road) and
Towne Lake Community. Underwritten by Memorial Hermann Cypress
Hospital, the fun-filled community event will again include a 5K run as
well as a 1-mile family-friendly walk/run. Both will feature new course
layouts, with 5K race participants running through Towne Lake and Lone
Star College-CyFair.
The family path will wind through Cy-Fair FCU Stadium. The fun run will
also include vendor booths, food trucks, live entertainment and activities
for children.
Proceeds from the Superintendent’s Fun Run and Festival benefit the Cy-
Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF), which awards student scholarships
and staff development grants. The fifth annual event held in March 2018
generated a record $100,000 for the CFEF.
Registration will be $20 (non-students) and $15 (students) for the 5K,
which includes a t-shirt and timing chip. Registration for the 5K without
the t-shirt is $15 (non-students) and $10 (students). Registration for the
1-mile, family-friendly walk/run will be $5 for all ages. Awards will be
given by age group and gender for the 5K run. A $10 sleep-in pass is also
available for individuals who are not able to attend but would like to still
contribute from afar.
The Superintendent’s Century Club will continue, as it gives special
recognition to those whose registration total equals or exceeds $100.
Club membership will include one reserved parking permit and pin, with
5K race participants also receiving one gold bib. Benefits will be awarded
at each $100 increment spent on registration, with a family of three,
for example, receiving three gold bibs if the members’ total spending
reached $300 or more.
The festival is open to the public and free of charge throughout the
duration. Patrons can browse vendor booths and food trucks while also
enjoying live performances by student groups as well as a play zone.

SHIELD BEARER RUNNING FOR HEARTS
5K FAMILY FUN RUN AND WALK
The Shield Bearer Running for Hearts 5K Family Fun Run and Walk will take
place on March 30, 2019, from 7 AM to 11 AM, at Windwood Church at
10555 Spring Cypress Road in Houston, Texas. This family friendly event
will feature a 5K timed, trail style run, a 1-mile family walk, games for the
kids, t-shirts, food, prizes and lots of fun for all ages. Race registration is
$25 for adults (ages 14 and up) and $10 for children (ages 13 and under)
before March 15, 2019. Registration, sponsorship, vendor, fundraising and
volunteer information is available at shieldbearer.org/5K. Proceeds for the
event will fund services and programs at Shield Bearer, a Houston based
501c3 nonprofit counseling and community resource center that provides
services on a sliding scale. Shield Bearer has six locations in Houston and

The event will be held at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut St.,

in Houston and celebrates the fellowship of the Jewish community with a
day of food, live entertainment, contests and family friendly activities while
raising funds for nonprofit organizations in the Houston Jewish community.
The cook-off attracts more than 3,500 attendees annually for live music, a
moonwalk, climbing walls, balloon artists, a jalapeno eating contest and a
silent auction as guests taste some of Houston’s best kosher chili. Cooking
teams are encouraged to register for the judged competition so groups
or organizations can promote themselves, build teamwork, have fun and
reward contributors, Board members and staff. Winners of the kosher chili
tasting contest will win coveted trophies and prizes presented by celebrity

APRIL 13 th & 14 th
The world-famous CAF B-17 Flying Fortress Texas Raiders will be
headlining the 17 th annual Warbird Weekend April 13 th -14 th at the West
Houston Airport in Houston, TX. Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Houston
Wing will host the popular Warbird Weekend at their museum at the West
Houston Airport. The B-17 Texas Raiders, along with the only flying SB2C
dive-bomber Helldiver, replica Japanese Zeros from the TORA TORA TORA
performance unit and the Vietnam era CH-46 “Sea Knight” helicopter
will all be in attendance. Various WWII warbirds will be on display and
available for public flights and visiting aircraft will offer cockpit tours for
the entire weekend.
This year the Lone Star Classic Chevy Convention car show will also take
place during the Warbird Weekend. The Chevy Convention will include
over 50 classic Chevrolet cars from 1955-1957.
The admission fee is $20 per car at the gate. Proceeds from the event
help fund facility operations and the restoration and operation of the

Cadillac, Animal ER of NW Houston, is returning to Cypress Village Station
on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This year’s Wine
Fair Theme is “International Flair” and will celebrate cultural diversity

McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival - March 30-31, 2019, 10 AM-6 PM,

The McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival is the largest children’s festival in
the United States. Two days of games, circus acts, rides, food, beverages and
entertainment for all ages centered in Downtown Houston. Created Child Advocates
as an avenue to create awareness and funding to help the neglected and
abused children of Houston. Over 5.4 million dollars have been raised for the
organization through the annual two days of children activities. Come celebrate,
enjoy, laugh and play at the Annual McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival and
create a lifetime of memories.

Comedy Night at HPL - Monthly on the 3 rd Thursday, 6-8 PM. Houston Public

Public Library offers “Open Mic” comedy night where local and non local
comedians, comediennes, ventriloquists and impressionists of ALL ages present
family comedy to the audience. Improv Performers from Station Theater closes
out the night with games that involve the audience. Everyone who participates
in at least one open mic throughout the year become eligible to participate in
the Annual Comedy competition which is held in December. Prizes in the amounts
of $100 and $75 gift cards are given to the 4 winners. Two adult and two youth.

THAI BASIL
CHICKEN BOWLS
A 30-minute meal with less than
400 calories per serving? YES AND
YES!!! It’s so quick to whip up, budget-friendly,
and SO GOOD!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup jasmine rice
1/2 cup chicken stock
3 tablespoons reduced
sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons unseasoned
rice vinegar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 shallots, thinly sliced
1 red Thai chili pepper, thinly sliced
1 1/4 pounds ground chicken breast
1 1/2 cups packed fresh basil leaves
DIRECTIONS:
Cook rice according to package
instructions; set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk together
chicken stock, soy sauce, fish sauce,
brown sugar and vinegar; set aside.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet
over medium heat. Add garlic, shallots
and chili pepper. Cook, stirring
frequently, until fragrant, about 1-2
minutes.
Add ground chicken and cook until
browned, about 3-5 minutes, making
sure to crumble the chicken as it
cooks; drain excess fat.
Stir in stock mixture and cook,
stirring constantly, until the sauce
has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
Stir in basil until just wilted, about
30 seconds.
Divide rice into bowls.
Top with chicken mixture.*
Serve immediately.
Notes:
*Refrigerate for up to 3-4 days. The
bowls can be reheated in the microwave
in 30-second intervals until
heated through.

HEALTHIER SLOPPY JOES

INGREDIENTS:
1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 carrots, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
salt and ground black pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
Heat skillet over medium-high heat; cook and stir beef, onion, green bell pepper,
carrots and garlic until beef is browned, about 10 minutes. Drain off liquids.
Stir in mustard, ketchup and brown sugar and mix thoroughly. Reduce heat
to low and simmer until sauce has thickened, about 30 minutes. Season with

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (15 ounce) can chili without beans
1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chile peppers, drained
DIRECTIONS:
In a medium, microwave safe bowl, mix cream cheese, chili without
beans and diced tomatoes with green chile peppers.
Microwave cream cheese mixture on high 1 minute. Remove from
microwave, stir and repeat until the mixture is hot and thoroughly

TREES AND SHRUBS
• Plant container-grown trees and shrubs as soon as possible.
In shady areas, where grass is difficult to grow, consider planting
a dependable groundcover such as English ivy, Asian jasmine,
vinca or one of the prostrate junipers.
• Prune spring flowering and evergreen shrubs during early March.
However, be sure to prune spring flowering shrubs after they
have bloomed.
• Fertilize with a pre-plant application of a slow-release fertilizer
analysis such as 19 - 5 - 9 at the rate of 3 pounds per 100 square
feet of garden planting area. Early March is the ideal time to
fertilize landscape plants because you give them food just
before the spring growing season starts.
