Village Pipol offers a variety of content, which finely symbolizes the diverse foundation of all

or collectively known as KierVi. In a way, they have rewritten their stars by challenging the

THE SOFTCORE ANATOMY 

OF ALONE/TOGETHER

Let’s get one thing straight. If you are looking 

for a standard review of Alone/Together, you 

won’t find that here. Truth be told, I don’t know 

what to call this either. Perhaps, self-help of 

some sort? A letter? Nonetheless, may this find 

its way to a kindred spirit. 

Have you ever looked at where you stand in 

life lately? Is it where you want to be? If not, 

what led you there? Through a looking glass, 

I’m beginning to ask the same things to myself. 

Unfortunately, these questions only lead to 

more questions. 

You see, last year offered so much hope and 

potential for someone like me. I was your 

typical achiever. Fresh from college, I had a 

resume that boasts a background, expertise, 

and accolade in various fields. Yet, months 

after, here I am feeling clueless and anxious. 

What had become of me? 

Frankly, this is too much retrospection for a 

21-year old on a Monday night. However, I can’t 

deny the way this phase makes me question 

the worth I worked so hard to build on my own. 

Ring a bell? If you find yourself in the exact dark 

rabbit hole like I do, keep reading. I guarantee 

this Antoinette Jadaone masterpiece will hit 

close to home. 

NOT JUST A LOVE STORY 

If you look past all the kissing, you’ll soon 

realize there’s more to the romance. It’s a 

journey of self-empowerment and of chances. 

In fact, I couldn’t say it’s much of LizQuen at 

all. Despite Enrique Gil stars opposite Liza 

Soberano, the latter carried the entirety of the 

movie on her own flawlessly. Raw and sincere in 

every second of it. 

YOUNG AND NAIVE 

I felt Christine Lazaro (Liza) 

when she said, “Gusto ko nang 

baguhin ang mundo.” Do you 

remember those days when 

it seems the world was ours 

for the taking? Exhilarating, 

isn’t it? Meanwhile, Raf Toledo 

(Enrique) proved to be an effective 

stark contrast to her idealistic 

ambitions. He reminded us of the 

logical voice inside our heads that 

keeps us grounded. We were too ignorant 

of the harsh realities around us. Ultimately, 

we end up to be an Icarus who flew too close 

to the sun. And when we fall short to our 

expectations, we became our own demons. 

The sharp turn which her path took was an 

all too familiar punch to the gut. The first 

unintentional tear came the moment she 

exclaimed, “hindi ko alam anong nangyari 

sa’kin.” An honest to a goodness reality check 

for all of us struggling to find our footing. The 

more we lose sight of who we are, the more our 

life spirals down the drain. 

MALAYA AT MAPAGPALAYA 

Fast forward, Christine finds herself in a 

relationship with Greg (Luis Alandy) she settled 

for but doesn’t belong to. She recalls to Raf “I 

wasn’t meant to be that great person.” Their 

encounter seven years after served as a wakeup 

call and a reminder of the person she used 

to be. New York was a dream for them. As 

reiterated time and again, our history, no matter 

how tragic, should never be forgotten. “What if 

it’s not too late for me?” left me silently crying 

in my seat. 

This acceptance of defeat gave her the needed 

strength against a controlling Greg when he 

asked her to stop acting like a child. “I am a 

child, Greg,” Christine defiantly responded. 

“But why do I feel so old. Hindi ko na kilala ang 

sarili ko. I should be dreaming, conquering the 

world.” Then, it hits me how I’ve been too hard 

on myself. My youth does not only present 

impractical and predetermined standards of 

success, but endless opportunities to pick 

myself up after I stumble. 

BEGIN AGAIN 

At such a delicate age, we are often confronted 

with a confusion of whether we should grow 

up or stay in our carefree days. Not knowing 

which side of the spectrum we truly are a part 

of, Sir Alwyn (Nonie Buencamino) shared “You 

can always make your own dreams.” This is 

a privilege we often oversee. Let us not be 

prisoners inside cages we made with our fears. 

Take infinite leaps forward until you safely land 

on the other side. 

Alone/Together offers a lighthearted drama 

as opposed to KathNiel’s The Hows of Us. If 

anything, it teaches us everything has its own 

timing. Above all else, it presents how we 

should forgive ourselves for all the things we 

did and did not become. Ironically, the slash 

within the title is reminiscent of that as well as 

the film’s open ending. 

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. 

Nothing in life is ever absolute. And while we 

may fail, we should not look at it with finality. 

Rather than dwelling on what if’s, focus on what 

is and what you can still do. If you’re to have 

faith in anything, have faith in the fact that the 

universe has a beautiful way of straightening 

things far better than we ever could. Trust the 

wait, embrace the uncertainty, and enjoy the 

beauty of becoming. n

SINGLES RUN 2019 

IS A HUGE SUCCESS 

The Philippines’ biggest gathering of singles 

finally happened last February 10 at the 

Liwasang Ulalim, CCP Complex. More than 

3, 000 runners happily celebrated their 

singlehood with a school fair themed fun 

run experience and, of course, prizes from 

the generous sponsors made the event more 

exciting. 

EXCITING ACTIVITIES 

Before the main event started, various booths 

were placed at the grounds to set the mood 

of all the participants. Most of the girls went 

to the Marriage Booth to take pictures with 

a wedding veil on their head while holding a 

bouquet of flowers. Meanwhile, warm hugs 

and sweet kisses filled the atmosphere at the 

Kissing Booth and Free Hugs booth. 

Singles Run 2019 is definitely more than just 

a fun run event for all the single people. It 

promotes healthy lifestyle through active 

participation in sports activities. Moreover, it 

became a huge platform to raise awareness for 

all the dialysis patients in the Philippines as it 

subsidizes the Dialysis PH Support Group Inc. 

RAFFLE DRAWS AND BITTER SWEET 

PERFORMANCES 

At the latter part of the event, raffle draws and 

the awarding ceremony for all the winners of 

3K, 5K, 10K and 16K categories took place. 

Sharp Philippines, as one of the major sponsors, 

drawn winners for an overwhelming numbers of 

appliances, like flat-screen televisions, electric 

fans and washing machine. 

Wrapping up the event were bitter-sweet 

performances from Ampalaya Monologues, 

which ultimately gave relatable lines to all the 

pinaasa at umasa. Well, we all have our fair 

share of heartbreaks. 

The first-ever Singles Run is presented by RED

If you check Twitter on any given day, 

you’re almost always guaranteed to spot 

a portmanteau or two on the Philippines’ 

trending list. It’s a mark of how passionate 

Filipinos are when it comes to love teams: 

they rank high on our list of national 

obsessions, along with basketball, white 

rice, and beauty pageants. 

Even those who claim to be not into 

showbiz must be familiar of the likes of 

KathNiel, LizQuen, and JaDine. Today 

there at least a dozen other pairings 

existing alongside these arguably 

established couples. The latest to join the 

roll call is “KierVi” — Charles Kieron (CK) 

and Vivoree Esclito. 

Though the KierVi brand is still in its early 

stages, CK and Vivoree are not exactly 

showbiz newbies. Vivoree has been in the 

business for a couple of years and was a 

former housemate in Pinoy Big Brother. 

CK is a longtime member of Hashtags, 

the all-male dance group that rose to fame 

through It’s Showtime. 



Since CK and Vivoree officially debuted 

as an on-screen couple last year, they’ve 

been following the unofficial love team 

playbook: TV appearances, a movie, mall 

shows, and most recently, a tandem album 

launch. 

But what makes their story unique is how 

they started out. Their love team was 

born not through a network executive’s 

boardroom, a reality show, or even actual 

courtship. It was the fans who dreamed of, 

shipped, and brought KierVi to life.

IT STARTED WITH A TWEET 

This is a story set in the digital age, after all. 

The meet-cute didn’t take place in a sidewalk, 

an elevator, or a bus ride. Instead, it unfolded in 

a 140-character text box. 

On May 6, 2018, Twitter user @pherlouiemoya 

tweeted: “Taping tomorrow for ipaglaban mo, 

@vivoree and @hashtag_ckieron! ABANGAN.” 

This was supposed to be just another regular 

announcement for the fans; the guy, after all, 

is an advertising and promo specialist for ABS- 

CBN. 

Perhaps it was the way the tweet was phrased; 

perhaps there was just something about the 

idea which made perfect sense. Somehow, 

fans assumed that CK and Vivoree were going 

to paired up for this project. As the hearts, 

comments, and retweets came pouring in, the 

dominant feedback was clear: this is a love 

team that the fans are ready to support. 

Eventually, the fans found out that they weren’t 

going to be paired up in this project after all; in 

the narrative, CK is actually courting Vivoree’s 

sister. But the notion of CK and Vivoree as a 

love team stuck. Fans christened them “KierVi” 

and begged to see more of them together. The 

overwhelming response — and succeeding 

clamor — soon became impossible to ignore. 

Not that these two found the set-up contrived 

or too pilit. “Magaan lang ka-work si CK,” 

Vivoree says. “Kasi he’s also professional, and I 

think he’s also serious about what’s he’s doing, 

and it’s his passion. Same goes with me, kaya 

nagkakasundo kami.” 

It doesn’t hurt that love teams, in general, are 

enjoying a surge in popularity. “Ang dami kong 

nababasa sa Twitter na nagsasabing nafo-focus 

na sila sa work, sa school, [pero] pagdating sa 

love teams na idols nila, doon gumagaan yung 

pakiramdam nila,” CK says. “Bumababalik ‘yung 

feels na walang problema masyado. Siguro iyon 

yung nami-miss ng mga tao.” 

They credit the fans with pushing for their love 

team to happen, but they might’ve known there 

was something all along. When they guested at 

Tonight With Boy Abunda, the two revealed that 

their actual first meeting happened at a go-see, 

way before the tweet about their Ipaglaban 

Mo week. During the VP shoot, CK recalls the 

incident in his own words. 


“Pagdating ko sa room, nandoon na siya, 

binigyan kami ng script, nag-lines kami. 

Pagkakita ko sa kanya, parang feeling ko close 

na agad kami.” 

Even though they did not win that project, their 

compatibility was already palpable even then, 

according to CK. 

“Siguro ‘yung friendship namin… doon nagwork 

‘yung chemistry,” he explains. “Pagdating 

sa work, hindi kami nag-iilangan. ‘Di namin 

kailangan pilitin na magpaka-sweet kami… 

parang ‘yung ginagawa namin, kusa na lang 

talaga siyang lumalabas.” 



FOR THE FANS 

All of that happened less than a year 

ago. Since then, this pair has been 

inseparable — and unstoppable. 

2018 was a year of big milestones for 

the couple. Along with a string of TV 

shows such as Since I Found You and 

Wansapanataym, the two also did 

their first movie, Petmalu, alongside an 

ensemble cast of fellow young stars, 

such as Marlo Mortel, Diego Loyzaga, 

Michelle Vito, and Karen Reyes. 

“I really felt so blessed,” Vivoree says. 

“Dati pa lang po kasi, pinapangarap ko 

lang po siya. And sobrang thankful lang 

po talaga ako, lalo na sa mga tao na 

sumusuporta sa amin, and who made 

everything possible… We can’t make it 

there, kung wala talaga sila.” 

‘Sila’ refers to the fans, the very same 

ones who supported their love team 

even before it became official. CK 

and Vivoree like to think of them as 

their family and second home. “Kahit 

probinsya yung puntahan namin, ‘yung 

mga taga-Maynila, luluwas din talaga 

ng probinsya para makita kami. ‘Di 

namin ine-expect na ganoon din pala 

sila magmahal,” CK says. 

The two enjoy acting, but they are 

in unison in admitting that it can be 

challenging. For Wansapanataym, 

Vivoree recounts, she only had 1 hour 

of sleep during the first day of taping. 

She had read through the entire script 

the night before, because she wanted 

to be prepared. She says: “Ayoko 

pumunta sa set na walang alam. Yung 

anxiety and pressure na nai-put ko to 

myself, sobrang lala… it was crazy. But 

memorable at the same time.” 

CK is working extra-hard to learn on 

the job, too. He hasn’t done any acting 

workshops yet, but fortunately, Vivoree 

is there to give him tips. 

“Nag-usap na din kami na kapag may 

problema kaming dalawa, siyempre 

andito lang kami, para pakinggan yung 

problems namin,” he says.

If given the chance, both want to do 

action movies. But they’re more than 

happy to keep doing rom-coms for now, 

if that is what the fans want. 

“'Di namin tinatanggihan yung mga 

binibigay sa amin na trabaho. Gusto 

namin dalawa na galingan sa lahat ng 

ginagawa namin,” Vivoree says. “Para 

kapag nakita ng tao, [maiisip nila] ‘uy, 

magaling pala sila sa ganito.’’ 


REWRITING THE STARS 

They may still be figuring out what genre 

they’ll stick with, but it’s already evident 

that CK and Vivoree shine most when 

they’re onstage. Any doubts or criticism 

about their tandem are silenced when 

you watch them harmonizing, or even 

just recording a dance clip on their 

phone. It’s clear that they simply enjoy 

performing together.

Stars’ has reached 2.7 million views as 

of writing. It was just uploaded for fun, 

CK says, and they never expected it to 

be such a hit. The song became their 

guesting staple, and it paved the way 

for their first album, released just last 

January.

They launched to a sold-out crowd at 

the SM North Edsa Sky Dome, where 

they treated fans and media to a mix of 

acoustic and dance numbers. 

Despite the fact that they had less than 

two months to record and produce this 

album, they made sure their chosen 

tracks still mirrored who they are. 

“May mga songs din na English silang 

binigay, pero sabi namin ni Vivoree, bakit 

hindi tayo mag-album na pure OPM, kasi 

iyon yung kinalakihan namin,” CK says. 



In the future, expect these two to show 

off their individual creativity even more. 

Vivoree has always described music as 

her first love and wants to write her own 

material; she was offered the opportunity 

to do so for this album, but since the 

timings were tight, she decided to wait. 

“Gusto ko kasi pag-isipan talaga yung 

mga songs ko, so nag-decide ako na, next 

time na lang ilagay ‘yung mga songs ko sa 

album,” she says. 

CK, meanwhile, enjoys dance-infused 

performances and inspired by his KPop 

idols such as BTS and EXO. “'Pag pinanood 

mo sila mag-perform, para laging ‘yun na 

‘yung last concert nila, bigay na bigay, 

walang tinitipid. Ganoon ‘yung gusto ko, 

‘yung entertained talaga yung tao, sulit 

yung bayad nila,” he says. 

For now, though, these two are simply 

taking things in stride, enjoying whatever 

opportunities come their way. “I think 

right now, we want to go with the flow, 

like kung ano yung ibibigay sa amin ng 

management, we’ll be very happy with 

that,” Vivoree says. 

The veterans they’ve worked with all offer 

the same advice: no matter what happens, 

they should stay true to who they really 

are. “Laging sinasabi sa amin na maging 

kami lang, na hindi namin kailangan 

baguhin yung sarili namin para sa tao,” CK 

says. 



“If you are being yourself then that’s what 

makes you stand out. Kasi if you’re trying 

to be someone else, matatabunan ka 

talaga. So we really try our best to be the 

best version of ourselves,” Vivoree adds.

In a way, CK and Vivoree have rewritten 

their stars by challenging the notion of 

what it means to be a love team today. 

They’re following conventions, but they 

never compromise their identity; they were 

brought together by accident, but they’ve 

turned their partnership into something 

natural and truly fascinating to watch. 

Only time will tell if KierVi will have the 

staying power of a John Lloyd-Bea or 

a Sharon-Gabby. But these two aren’t 

stressing about it. They’re simply making 

the most of this momentum and looking 

forward to whatever will happen. n

The moment the prince enters 

the room, he makes sure that 

everyone in the vicinity knows 

about his presence. The way he 

flaunts his crowning glory captivates 

commoners around by the ethereal 

beauty it beholds. As everyone was 

blinded by the light, a ravishing face 

was revealed displaying the real 

definition of love at first sight. 

Hashtag Kid Yambao impeccably 

exudes a mischievously handsome 

vibe. He got the confidence that

he walked inside the room with a smile 

and greeted everyone, people seemed 

to work comfortably. More than that, 

his bubbly personality makes the 

conversation smooth as if you’re just 

talking to a friend, who jokes all the 

time. 


NOT A KID ANYMORE 

During the interview, he shared that this 

was his first time to do a solo magazine 

shoot. 

“This magazine feature is something that 

you can be proud of. Masaya sa feeling 

na kaya ko palang mag-solo. Nakakatuwa 

lang sa sarili, nakakataba ng puso.” 

Like a dream come true, he never 

expected to be on the spotlight. His first 

taste of fame taught him to adapt to 

people, time, and to himself as well.

“Hindi ko talaga gusto sa showbiz, hindi 

naman talaga ako artista nun. Simpleng 

tao lang kasi ako, taga-Cavite lang ako. 

Doon ako lumaki, nagba-basketball lang 

ako eh, tambay, DOTA, computer, ganun 

lang. So, nung pagpasok ko [sa showbiz], 

sobrang nanibago ako kasi lahat eh magaadjust 

ka sa oras mo, sa sarili mo, sa 

tao, ganun,” 

he reminisced. 

We may never expect him to slay dragons 

but he can definitely slay any dance 

move as one of the kilig ambassadors of 

ABS-CBN noontime show, It's Showtime. 

During the conversation, he showed his 

optimistic side that makes you realize 

that he’s not a kid anymore. The young 

guy sees himself as a basketball player 

one day. Plus, he even revealed that he 

has plans to open a clothing line. Truly a 

wonder! 



A CHARM OF A TRUE STAR 

A prince isn’t always perfect he’s also 

flawed as anyone else in the tale. Dubbed 

as the ‘Harry Styles’ of the Philippines, Kid 

spilled that he was constantly branded as 

a ‘bad boy’ because of his looks, however 

he insisted that it wasn’t true. 

His charming demeanor and his most 

recognizable feature: his gorgeous hair 

will surely make everyone turns their 

heads. Plus, the way he dresses got a big 

similarity to the One Direction member 

Harry. We are loving it! 

Aside from being the Pinoy Harry 

Styles, the Miss Q & A segments Anni- 

BEKS-arry Special marks a peak of his 

career. His portrayal as ‘Kid Kardashian’ 

is undeniably iconic, which instantly 

turned him into a noontime goddess. 

Unsurprisingly, after the show, many guys 

messaged him. He even fearlessly said 

that many people thought that he was 

gay. 

“Mukha daw akong mayabang and 

badboy, pero mabait ako. Tapos 

nakakatuwa [na] pinagkamalan akong 

bading. Lalo na nung [Miss] Q&A, after 

nun halos lahat ng nag-message sa 'kin, 

lahat lalaki. Una issue lang, ‘nung nag 

Q&A ako, totoo nga daw. Wala akong 

magagawa,” he shared.

Be true to yourself and be true to people 

around you. This is what he wants to 

impart to aspiring artists out there. 

He might be young to encounter big 

challenges in the showbiz industry but 

the 19-year-old actor advises to set some 

goals and do your best all the time. 

“Hindi ko masasabi na perfect role model 

ako sa kabataan. Gagawin ko lang ‘yung 

mga bagay na kaya ko pang gawin. 

Mag-set ng goals at ibigay mo ang 101% 

mo to reach those goals. Anyway, I am 

still growing and tumitingala pa ako sa 

mga taong iniidolo ko. Basta kahit anong 

mangyari, maging totoo ka sa sarili mo. 

Maging totoo sa lahat,” he pronounced. 

Above all, in a kingdom full of hard 

battles, a fearless prince can surely beat 

the odds. With his radiating confidence 

as an armor and carefree personality as 

his sword, Kid Yambao absolutely owns a

LADIES REPRESENT 

A movement is happening around us. Not 

just for inclusivity and representation, 

but for equality. In truth, this has been 

one of the hard-fought battles since time 

immemorial. As the gender spectrum 

evolves, so as the need for their rightful 

acknowledgement and respect in society. 

Especially, the potential they hold. 

Ana does not simply sit with people 

around a table. She commands them. 

Being a girl boss is not much about being 

able to lead a group. Rather, it is how one 

takes control of her life and a personal 

responsibility of her future. 

That is exactly how she became the 

president of Professional Models 

Association of the Philippines (PMAP). 

She stands as an avant garde who sees 

the risks, and understands how success 

is not achieved overnight and in the 

boundaries of your comfort zone. 

“I feel honored that I was chosen to lead a 

new generation of models. It’s hard work 

to be a PMAP President. You need to 

keep the association relevant. You need 

to do fund raisings, volunteer for charity 

works, have activities and/or events, and 

at the same time, focus on the internal 

affairs of PMAP, and it feels like it’s a fulltime 

job.” 

Despite the grueling demands of her 

career, the challenge bears fulfillment 

that keeps her going. Surprisingly, Ana 

still finds balance through it all. A feat not 

achieved by many. 

“It’s just setting priorities and time 

management. I allot certain hours of 

the day for work, PMAP duties and my 

family.” 


FASHION WITH A PURPOSE 

The industry Ana choses to be a part of 

can often be labeled as pointless and 

egocentric by others. However, she 

believes that where she stands now can 

be a great platform for empowerment. 

She also expresses how you are able to 

share your advocacies, if any. 

Like all breakthroughs, she had her 

own humble beginnings. With her 

determination coupled with hard work, 

it didn't come as a shock that bigger 

opportunities would come her way. 

“When I was dubbed as the Magazine 

Editorial Queen more than 10 years ago. 

Every month I had at least one editorial 

coming out in various magazines for 

3 straight years. Another modeling 

achievement I had was when I landed an 

agency in New York and modeled there,” 

remembering her milestones. 

Major Model Management in the Big 

Apple took Ana under their wing. 

Everything might have taken some time, 

yet she believes anyone could accomplish 

what they want so long as they put their 

mind into it. 

“Practice your runway walk and posing 

for photographs in front of a mirror. Hone 

your craft and work on your personality. 

Above everything else, looks will get 

agents/bookers to notice you, but it’s 

your personality that will make you 

shine.” 

In her opinion, to be a style icon means 

being someone that makes dressing 

up seem effortless, put together, and 

polished. True enough, it all boils down to 

confidence. How one feels comfortable in 

her own skin.

LEARNING BY DOING 

Ana openly talks about how she commits style 

mistakes like any of us. This includes wearing 

an outfit with visible panty lines, going out with 

clothes not ironed, and ill-fitting clothes. She 

proves nobody is perfect. 

As for her taste in fashion, she identifies herself 

as “comfy chic”. She admits she prefers a casual 

outfit and is guilty of not really dressing up. 

“I mostly wear jeans, shorts, t-shirts and 

sandals as my everyday attire. Modeling 

didn’t really change my outfit preference but 

I sometimes dress up when going to a ritzier 

place.” 

Actually, her go-to and can’t-live-without outfits 

are jeans, jackets/cardigans, various tank tops, 

black dress, and branded bag. This sounds like 

the polar opposite of the glamorous getups you 

witness on the runway. 

“I like solid colored tops. I don’t wear prints 

that much, but if I do see a print I like, I wear it 

as is. I am not a sneakers kind of girl. I own a 

few pairs but I don’t normally wear it as much. 

You can only see me wearing rubber shoes in 

gyms.” 

Ana thinks every day is a chance to amp up 

your style by injecting a bit of fun into your 

clothes. Like pairing a great jacket with a boring 

outfit, or wearing a stylish bag and smart shoes 

to bring your whole look together. 

Getting to know her gives us a good reality 

check. Indeed, being true to yourself is the 

name of the game. Fashion is not defined by 

the myriad of clothes in your rack and cabinet. 

Instead, it is the sense of identity you carry 

proudly. n
