18 SPOTLIGHT PCTA-SKY Cable strategic relations head Jon Arayata, PCTA 2019 Convention chairman Dr. Venancio Lo, and CPI shared services head Teresita Villareal. ABS-CBN subsidiaries Creative Programs Inc. (CPI) and SKY Cable Corporation pledged support to the Philippine Cable Television Association (PCTA) for the organization’s forthcoming convention and exhibit to be held at the SMX Convention Center from 2 to 4 April. SKY Cable and CPI will be having their respective interactive booth displays showcasing different products and latest offerings as they join this year’s Philippine Premiere Cable TV Convention with the theme “Internet Exchange: Let’s get it on!” Tackling conflicts arising from Internet service coming to the fore, the gathering will also discuss the opportunity of spreading wings beyond cable TV and going online, to foster the blossoming business of content delivery. From its name is a movement — it’s both a call to action and a message from its people Though born and raised in Manila, Terrie Fucanan-Yu is a Bol-anon at heart having spent most of her childhood summers in the simplicity and beauty of Bohol’s culture and traditions. It is not surprising then that when she goes to weekend markets, she’d look for something from her beloved Bohol only to be disappointed. Terrie says, “Weekend markets and trade fairs would always have products from Cebu, Bacolod, Ilocos and even Davao, but Bohol goods, zero. I feel that my fellow Boholanos are losing out on the growing interest and support of Manila and its expat community to locally-produced goods.” This is how Terrie came up with Love Bohol. What is the idea behind Love Bohol? What are the circumstances that brought it about? What are your objectives? The idea behind Love Bohol is to celebrate the beauty of the province through the stories and creations of its people - the village economies, the artisans, farmers, and small entrepreneurs who are creating good, quality products that are unique to the island. We choose to focus on their craft and successes to spark new interest about Bohol — because yes, there is more to it than just about the Chocolate Hills — and at the same time help local communities. Love Bohol from its name is a movement — it’s both a call to action and a message from its people. What are your fondest memories of Bohol? My fondest memories are of my childhood summers spent in my grandparents’ homes. While you’re in Loboc, take a Loboc River cruise while having lunch and visit the award-winning Loboc children’s choir to hear their angelic voices. Drop by Crissander Enterpises for handcrafted and laser-cut accessories and souvenirs that are made of sustainable wood and recycled materials. Witness how fine handicrafts are made at the Tubigon Loom Weavers Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Tubigon (where raffia bags, placemats and tablerunners are made), the Antequera early Sunday market (Bohol’s basket capital), and Crown Cabilao in Cabilao Island (where the women continue the tradition of romblo mat weaving). Visit the cacao farms in Calape and Sierra Bullones and learn from the farmers. Bohol has hundreds of heirloom cacao trees of the rare and delicious criollo variety. Bohol’s chocolatier Dalareich Polot and cacao farming advocate Cecilia De Leon are spearheading their preservation in Calape town. Also visit Dalareich Chocolate House in Tagbilaran, the only chocolate maker that produces single origin bean-to-bar chocolate, called Ginto, in the province. Visit Anda’s beaches as an alternative to touristy Panglao. While you’re there, try the coconut burger and other healthy and nourishing food at Coco Loco Cafe. What is your criteria for choosing companies/ entrepreneurs that are part of Love Bohol? Criteria 1: The brand/entrepreneur/community must have products that are made of materials that are local or indigenous to the province. Because Love Bohol advocates sustainability, the raw materials must come from Bohol but must be sustainably sourced. Criteria 2: The brand should be supporting local communities through livelihood opportunities, skills training, or direct procurement of raw materials. Criteria 3: The products should have a global appeal. There must be an effort to elevate the quality and design of the products to appeal to a global audience. What is your dream for Love Bohol? My dream for Love Bohol is to make it into an active social media movement where people can share all their positive, uplifting, and memorable experiences about Bohol and its people, and a platform through which local brands are able to introduce to the world their products that empower community livelihood. There are still so many communities in Bohol that I haven’t visited, and so many of them are in need of capital for their equipment, production, and skills training. My dream is for Love Bohol to get the much needed funding support for these communities through awareness and network building.
