Barnbougle Golf: The Dunes, Australia
Located at the North East Coast of Tasmania, the Dunes at Barnbougle
Golf is where gorgeous scenery meets thrilling golf. Being the original
and older Barnbougle golf course, it was designed by U.S Golf visionary
Tom Doak and Mike Clayton to channel a more traditional links course
which was typical in Scotland or Ireland. Playing golf at the Dunes can
be exciting as it is a game of strategy where every shot requires tactical
thought and some creativity.
The course embraces its coastal environment which flourishes in
fescue and bent grasses. The greens at the Barnbougle Dunes run at
speeds that resemble closely to the original greens at the Great Britain
links. They roll naturally with the undulation of the dunes and the 4th
hole boasts the largest bunker in the southern hemisphere.
The outward nine of this course takes players through a series of saddles
that both shelter and direct play lines. The last nine are more open but is
striking with the numerous views of the course that adjoins the bay and
Bridport. The fairways are wider than most traditional golf courses.
The true lines to the flags are from the corners of the fairways and the
perfect position is always changing due to the direction or strength of
the winds. The 4th and 12th holes are less than 275m from the back tee.
These holes are complemented by the par four 8th and the two par fives
in the back nine that compensate those with powerful yet measured
strokes. This course rewards strategic thinking and was created for the
