with Taylor Wright
Taylor Wright is a senior on the Lincoln-
Way East girls track team
How long have you been involved
with track and how did you get
started?
I’ve been involved since I was 8 years
old. And I actually got started when I was
at my cousin’s track meet, and I was there
watching, and I wanted to run because it
looked fun.
What do you most enjoy about the
sport?
I enjoy all the friends you make and the
life lessons you learn from it. I think track,
mentally, has been the hardest sport, and
I’ve learned how to shift my mind from it
and I’ve also learned how to have fun at
the same time.
What is your greatest strength as
an athlete?
My mind is mentally strong, and knowing
how to still overcome some of the defeats
and stay positive for my next race.
What athletic accomplishment are
you most proud of?
So far, I’m most proud of making it to
state and making it to finals. My one goal
is to become a state champion in an individual
event.
What are you most looking
forward to this season?
I’m looking forward to the rest of the
season. I want to make sure it’s the best
season, and I want to break my record
again in the 4x400. I really just want to
have the best season possible.
What advice would you give to
someone starting out with track?
Never give up. I would also tell them to
be positive and have a good spirit at the
same time. ... It will get easier.
Do you have any special traditions
before a big meet?
Not really. The only thing I would say is
every morning I listen to classical music.
It keeps me positive and it keeps my mind
positive.
What are your plans for after high
school?
I’m going to run at Eastern Illinois University,
and I hope to accomplish even
more there.
Do you have a role model?
My grandfather. I look up to him. He’s
also a strong person, and I’ve always
watched him accomplish things and work
through the challenges he’s faced. He’s
definitely my role model.
If you could travel anywhere in the
world, where would you go and
why?
I’ve always wanted to go to Dubai and
Italy, and it’s in between those two, but
I’d probably have to say Italy first. I’ve already
been to France and London, so that
was always my next goal ... to learn more
about the culture there and all the history
behind it.
