New Trier presents ‘The
Addams Family,’ new musical
Submitted by New Trier
The New Trier Performing
Arts Division presented
a new musical, “The
Addams Family,” from
March 7-10 in the Winnetka
Campus Gaffney
Auditorium.
The original story of a
father’s worst nightmare
is based on the book by
Marshall Brickman and
Rick Elice, and characters
created by Charles
Addams. “The Addams
Family” is presented by
special arrangement with
Elephant Eye Theatrical,
and music and lyrics are
by Andrew Lippa.
Wednesday Addams,
the ultimate princess of
darkness, has grown up
and fallen in love with a
sweet, smart young man
from a respectable family
whom her parents
have never met. If that
weren’t upsetting enough,
Wednesday confides in
her father and begs him
not to tell her mother.
Now, Gomez Addams
must do something he’s
never done before; Keep
a secret from his beloved
wife, Morticia. Everything
will change for the
whole family on the fateful
night they host a dinner
for Wednesday’s ‘normal’
boyfriend and his
parents.
“I’m excited to work
with our students to bring
these iconic characters
to life,” Director
and Performing Arts
Coordinator Anne James-
Noonan said before the
show. “We’ve especially
enjoyed working on this
contemporary music;
Andrew Lippa’s music is
infectious, fun and leaves
you humming.”
couple, Morticia and Gomez Addams.
The Addams household (left to right) has a litany of
characters, including Butler Lurch, played by Ben
Ancell, Grandma, played by Carly Martin, and Pugsley
Addams, played by Rebecca Smith.
In the finale of Act I, the family sings “Full Disclosure.”
