her because she is perfect and we love her so much!
Gia is incredibly smart and enjoys being on guard
Mayor
From Page 12
come into fruition.”
While Silver Cross continues
to expand its campus
off I-355, village officials
have also met with with restaurant
and hotel developers
that want to come to the
I-355 tollway area, which
Baldermann said are “certainly
worth waiting for.”
Baldermann made it
clear that the village will
not “cut back on quality”
when it comes to growth
and upcoming development.
“We’re not going to sell
our future out for a quick
win today,” Baldermann
said.
The mayor said he is
grateful that people don’t
have to travel far for quality
health, mental health
or cancer care, after Silver
Cross recently expanded
their campus to include a
behavioral hospital.
The Silver Oaks Behavioral
Hospital ribbon cutting
ceremony in December
was mentioned by the
mayor, who noted that the
overall mental and physical
health of a person can now
be addressed at home in the
community.
“We had a great opening
for the Silver Oaks Behavioral
Hospital where we
spoke very candidly about
the issues that face people
throughout the world: mental
health issues and addiction
issues,” Baldermann
said. “Any community that
says ‘that doesn’t happen
here, we don’t have that
problem here’ is in denial...
We address it head on and
we know that this entire region
needs that support and
assistance.”
Another way the Village
plans to generate investments
into the New Lenox
area is through long standing
traditions that have
been established in the
Commons, like The Triple
Play Series and Christmas
in the Commons. The lights
festival during Christmastime
in the Commons,
which includes spectacles
like the world’s largest lit
Santa, brought people in
from more than 70 different
communities who
came out to send Santa a
letter through Santa’s New
Lenox Commons mailbox.
“It’s successful,” Baldermann
said. “Not only does
it help market our town
but it helps our local businesses.”
I-80 was also an important
topic of discussion
after the Village secured
close to $50 million grant
towards improvements
to address the Route 30
and I-80 interchange last
year. Work begins on that
this year, according to the
mayor.
“We’ll see those improvements
that will help
with safety... that’s our
exit and entrance into New
Lenox. We’re going to
make that look nice,” Baldermann
said.
The mayor also reiterated
that he does not want to
open truck stops and other
industrial expansion beyond
the existing business
bark for a “quick win.” The
future of New Lenox looks
grounded in fostering new
growth, improving infrastructure
and maintaining
the long-standing traditions
in New Lenox.
“We will continue to
grow, and we will continue
to grow responsibly,” Baldermann
said.
