PRESIDENT’S REPORT<br />
AUSTRALIAN COMMANDOS RETURN TO THEIR BIRTHPLACE TO ASSIST<br />
WITH MAINTAINING THE COMMANDO HERITAGE<br />
IIn late 2018 ACAVIC became engaged as part<br />
of a community reference group with the<br />
development of the Open Space Plan for Tidal<br />
River which incorporates two components being a<br />
rest and recreation area adjacent to the <strong>Commando</strong><br />
Memorial, which ACAV looks after and the establish -<br />
ment of a walking track from the vicinity of the<br />
<strong>Commando</strong> Memorial to the top of Mount Oberon<br />
via Telegraph saddle.<br />
To date there have been several meetings of this<br />
community reference group along with Parks<br />
Victoria (PV) and People in Parks (PiP) considering a<br />
range of options for the acquisition of funds to<br />
support this project. It is anticipated that a signi -<br />
ficant portion of the funds will be sourced from state<br />
and federal agencies and supplemented this by<br />
limited appeal to the public and also known philan -<br />
thropists and relevant ex-service organisa tions.<br />
Engagement in this project is just one of several<br />
components of the three-year ACAVIC Tidal River<br />
Engagement Plan, which was recently endorsed by<br />
the Committee. In summary, the contents of the<br />
plan as follows:<br />
