Slurry removal systems<br />
Three types of slurry removal systems were tested (Fig. 1):<br />
1. The drive-out system: In this ‘flushing with retention’ system !Lere is a<br />
plane canal floor under tht: slats at a depth of 0.40 m. Under each row of pens<br />
there are two canals, 0.60 ;Ind 1.60 m wide. These canals are connected to a<br />
canal aside: and outside the pig house. A 0.10-m high threshold keeps a stagnant<br />
layer of slurry in the canals. The present slurry is driven out when the<br />
recirculation liquid (7 m3 a time) is pumped into the canals. TIE slurry is<br />
remnved 1-4 times a day depending on the slurry production. The average
