“The Hot Wheels Nationals were held in the Chicago
area this year. They held a pizza party at
Chesdan’s and made these custom Hot Wheels
cars to give out to the collectors that attended
the party. How cool is that?”
Thinking back on Easter memories
Thomas Czaja
tom@homerhorizon.com
Many of us have
the memory.
An open,
grassy field filled with
numerous plastic eggs. We
were told at a certain point
to “go,” and we filled our
Easter baskets with the
eggs, then opening them
and collecting the small
bits of candy or money
or whatever other prizes
for the effort awaited us
inside.
The Easter egg hunt is
a time-honored tradition
this time of year, and there
is never any shortage of
them to be found in the
community. In this week’s
issue, we covered and
feature one such egg event
on Page 17.
New Life Community
Church in Homer Glen
held an inaugural Easter
Eggstravaganza with
the aforementioned egg
hunt and also including
other festivities. I wish
we could make it out to
every single Easter egg
hunt in Homer Glen to
get photos and quotes of
happy children, who on
some occasions even get
to meet the Easter Bunny.
Now, if you missed out
on the New Life egg hunt
and are still looking to get
to a local egg hunt with
your children or grandchildren
for the season,
fear not! Check out Page
16 of this issue to once
again get the information
on several egg hunts still
to come ahead of Easter.
Of course, while the
adrenaline rush as a young
child of picking up as
many colorful eggs as
fast as humanly possible
is nice and all, the
real reason for Easter for
believers is of course the
ultimate resurrection of
Christ and the salvation of
humanity.
This week we are currently
in is an important
one for Christians, with
Lent and the fasting,
almsgiving, additional
prayer and sacrifice that
come with it soon coming
to an end, with Christ’s
crucifixion on Good
Friday and his rising
from the dead on Easter
Sunday.
Those looking to attend
an Easter Mass have
a number of options in
Homer Glen, with them
all again listed on Page 16
of this issue. Your Easter
celebrations may include
Mass, a ham, lamb cake,
Jell-O Easter eggs (a
personal favorite of Easter
dinner), egg hunts, egg
baskets, chocolate bunnies
or perhaps other unique
traditions.
Regardless, I hope
everyone in Homer Glen
has a Happy Easter surrounded
by loved ones
and making more festive
memories during the season.
And for those youngsters
in the community yet
to embark on an egg hunt
this year, may the odds be
ever in your favor for a
bountiful collection.
