D92: Pair of males ask 10-yearold
boy to get in SUV at bus stop
Thomas Czaja
Contributing Editor
Two males approached
a 10-year-old boy at a bus
stop April 9 and asked him
to get into their SUV, according
to a letter sent to
parents that same evening
from Will County School
District 92.
At 3:15 p.m. April 9,
the Lockport Police Department
was contacted
by a D92 parent to make
a report his son had been
approached by a black
SUV near the boy’s bus
stop at the corner of 151st
Street and Bunratty Drive
From April 10
in Lockport, according to
an email sent Wednesday,
April 10, to The Legend
from LPD Deputy Chief
Ron Huff.
At the bus stop about 30
minutes before the parent
contacted police, the boy
got off the bus and heard
someone yell out to him
to “come here” from the
passing vehicle, Huff said.
The two males were in
the SUV when they allegedly
asked the child to get
into the vehicle, the letter
added.
The child then reportedly
got scared off and ran
home. The vehicle was in
motion at the time of the
incident and never came to
a stop.
Beyond the black SUV
description, there are no
details on the driver or any
passengers of the vehicle,
Huff said.
D92 Interim Superintendent
Mark Fleming concluded
the letter by asking
parents to remind their
children how to respond to
these types of incidents.
Lockport Police Department
receives state accreditation
Submitted by the City of
Lockport
The Lockport Police
Department has been accredited
through the Illinois
Association of
Chiefs of Police’s Illinois
Law Enforcement
Accreditation Program.
This prestigious program
recognizes organizations
that have achieved excellence
in law enforcement
services.
The department was assessed
on the basis of 67
separate ILEAP standards
regarding administration,
operations, training and
personnel. To successfully
complete the accreditation
process, the policies and
procedures must reflect
the standards established
by ILEAP, and the Department
must also demonstrate
that it is following
said policies and procedures.
Accreditation confirms
that the Department has
achieved a level of professionalism
among its
law enforcement peers
and validates the methods
in which department
members provide services
to the residents and
the general public in the
community. In addition
to improving the agency’s
relationship with the community,
accreditation promotes
accountability and
reduces liability and risk
exposure.
Department’s recent State
Accreditation, contact
