8 | April 25, 2019 | The lake forest leader news LakeForestLeader.com Police Reports 2 adults, 2 juveniles involved in vehicle theft, possession of stolen goods Steward R. Toshione, 21, of Markham, Ill., Jones N. Santasia, 21, of Markham, Ill., and three juvenile females, were charged with possession of stolen goods, fleeing and eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle at 1:55 p.m. in the 400 block of Saunders Road. Police responded to the area of Route 60 and the Tollway after receiving a report from Illinois State Police about a stolen vehicle that fled from a traffic stop in the area. Officers located the stolen vehicle after a caller reported seeing the same stolen vehicle was parked on Saunders with several females exiting the vehicle, walking around a house under construction GLEN FLORA COUNTRY CLUB MAKE THE NEWLY RENOVATED GLEN FLORA YOUR PRIVATE CLUB and a report of gunshots in the area. Officers detained one female adult and three female juveniles at the scene and a check of the stolen van revealed numerous items of clothing with theft detection devices still attached. Illinois State Police responded to the scene and the stolen vehicle was released to them. The four individuals were transported to the Public Safety Building for further investigative purposes. All suspects were interviewed by officers from multiple agencies and released without charges from Lake Forest Police. Charges are likely pending from Illinois State Police, Schaumburg, and Pleasant Prairie. No initiation fee $325-$575/mo. based on age Unlimited golf In other police news: Lake Forest: April 14: • Melissa Hulzar, 24, of Waukegan, was charged with a DUI at 4:23 a.m. on Route 41. An officer on patrol noted a blue Chevrolet Impala was driving in an erratic manner that suggested the driver might be impaired. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the female driver, identified as Huizar. While officers were talking to Huizar, they noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from her and she was demonstrating signs of alcohol impairment. Officers had Huizar perform standard field sobriety tests to determine if she was impaired. Huizar was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. She was transported to the Public Safety Building where she was processed and requested to submit to chemical breath testing, which resulted in a reading of 0.132 BAC. April 13: • Enita Abarca, 35, of Waukegan, was charged with DUI of alcohol at 2:51 a.m. in the intersection of Route 41 and Westleigh Road. Police responded to a complaint of a red Toyota four-door driving on Route 41. The 911 caller reported the vehicle was swerving all over the place and being very erratic. Officers located the vehicle and, after observing the driving, conducted a traffic stop on the red Toyota. Officers spoke to the female driver, identified as Abarca, about her driving. During the traffic stop officers determined Abarca was demonstrating signs of impairment and, when asked about her drinking, she admitted to drinking several drinks prior to driving. Abarca was requested to perform standard sobriety test to determine her ability to drive. Based on her performance on the SFST’s and her driving, Abaraca was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing. Abarca was requested to submit to chemical testing which resulted in a reading of 0.136 BAC. April 9: • Suguna L. France, 44, of North Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license at 1:03 a.m. in the intersection of Route 41 and Gage Lane. Police on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a silver Honda for an equipment violation. When police approached the vehicle and spoke to the driver, identified as France, officers were able to determine France’s driver’s license was suspended at the time of the stop. • Robert Frechette, 50, of Lake Bluff, was charged with a DUI at 6:38 p.m. in the intersection of Waukegan Road and Route 176. Police responded to a reported two-vehicle crash at Waukegan Road and Route 176. Officers located two vehicles at the scene; one was a silver Honda driven by Frechette. Police were able to determine Frechette’s vehicle struck the rear of the other vehicle as it sat in traffic waiting for the light to change. Police questioned each driver as to the facts of the crash and during the investigation officers determined Frechette was demonstrating signs of impairment and requested he submit to standard field sobriety testing. Frechette was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing. Officers processed Frechette and requested he submit to chemical breath testing, which subsequently resulted in a reading of 0.240 BAC. Lake Bluff: April 7: • Threatening text message was reported at 9:25 a.m. at the Public Safety Building. April 5: • A verbal warning was given to a driver after being stopped for disobeying a stop sign at 1:15 p.m. in the intersection of W. Scranton Avenue and E. Center Avenue. The driver was also issued a citation for a suspended driver’s license and a citation for no insurance. • A two-vehicle property damage accident was reported at 2:18 p.m. in the 0-100 block of Sherwood Terrace. March 31: • A citation was issued for improper lane usage, driving without a valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and a warning ticket for operating a vehicle with one headlight at 2:01 a.m. on Route 41. Green Minds LFLB, which is a group of environmental advocates from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, united to develop a mobile phone application that will help residents use local recycling resources. Green Minds LFLB has created a free downloadable app — Recycle LFLB — to help residents find solutions for how to recycle. Controlling waste management costs and limiting volume of materials sent to landfills is important for all municipalities. Green Minds learned that locals are often confused about what goes where, and there was a need for better information on reusing, recycling and composting. This innovative and user-friendly app will help local residents see when their next curbside recycling, ordinary waste stream and yard waste pick-ups are. It also allows the users to search over 500 items to find the most sustainable solution for discarding them. Lastly, residents can be linked to local resources and their municipalities to order new recycling bins and get more information all from their mobile devices. Four core Green Minds volunteers worked long evenings the last seven weeks to bring this app to life: • Data Analyst: Azza Andreesen, analyzed and organized the data. • Graphic Designer: Marcus Norman from Norman Design Co. created the logos, interface and design of the app. • Programmer: Christian Rasmussen, a junior at Lake Forest High School, was responsible for programming the app and came up with a user-intuitive platform. (Editorial note: Christian’s participation in this project would make a fantastic special interest feature.) • Project Manager: Yuh Schabacker-Koppel coordinated the effort and was responsible for research and gathering data for the search part of the app. The app was made possible with the collaboration of the City of Lake Forest and the Village of Lake Bluff and the help of many Green Minds volunteers. “Green Minds hopes this app will be used by many residents,” said Yuh Schabacker-Koppel, a Green Minds board member. “By donating this app, Green Minds hopes to reduce our communities’ waste management expenses while also helping our communities become more sustainable.” The team had a lot of fun working on the app. “It was a fantastic and evolving experience to work together as a team in the real world by creating the Green Minds app,” said Rasmussen. “It’s my hope that all Lake Forest and Lake Bluff residents will download the Recycle LFLB app to their phones, to help make a better future for all of us.” Max The Colquhoun family, Lake Bluff Born: Aug. 20, 2012 Dog Friend: Bruno Favorite Hobby: I love sleeping on the bed all day and then playing with my toy duck, which I have taken all the stuffing out of!
