Nothing says Easter like
a drove of bunnies and the
chirping of chicks.
Malibuites hopped over
to enjoy both Saturday,
April 20, as local children
got up close and personal
with their new furry friends
at Malibu Country Mart’s
Bunny Petting Zoo and
Flower Crowns event.
“This is an incredibly
lovely event and the kids
have been looking forward
to it all week,” said Sarah
Samson, mother of Frank
and Maya. “I’m not sure
how we’ll get them out of
the enclosure as they’re really
enjoying this experience.”
Leesa Zelken, the CEO
(Clever Entertainment Organizer)
for Send In The
Clowns Events, helped participants
assemble bunches
of flowers and settle in for
some fun, creative time.
“We have beautiful ranunculus
that pair well with
the gerbera daisies,” she
said. “These fur-bunny tails
and babies’ breath are great
filler that add content and
context and don’t forget to
add greens to your garland
as well.”
Heather Downey, events
coordinator for event
group, demonstrated how
to adhere strands of wire
onto flowers and affix them
to a crown.
“It’s so fun to play with
flowers because it brings
you back to earth – people
always have their hands on
their devices and it’s good
for them to get their hands
dirty,” she said.
Color, shape and size
considerations informed
how attendees organized
the blossoms as they prepared
to assemble their
crowns.
Small blooms sat juxtaposed
with larger flowers
with their petals unfurled
for volume as Malibu resident
Darshana Ruffman
created her crown.
“This is a very peaceful
experience,” Ruffman said.
“It is very therapeutic and
relaxing.”
