Our Entertainment Editor Fami chatted with the most talented actor,
who’s known for his role on Shadowhunters as Meliorn, Jade is
an extremely handsome and charming actor who never fails to impress
us with his work whether It’s by his Style, Acting or music, he
always serves fans what he promises. Get to know him more and find
out about acting, his journey into his music and about his role as an
LGBTQ Character JJ.
FA: First, of all thank you for chatting with me,
so tell me what has it been like being a part of a
show as big as Shadowhunters? What has been
the best part about it?
JH: Thank You for having this chat with me!
Wow, there have been so many best parts it’s
hard to pick one. But two that really stand out
are the life-long friendships I have found in
this group of people, as well as the enormous
fandom family ocean of love that came with the
creation of the show.
The Shadowfam fandom was there way before
we were involved and they embraced us in a
beautiful and life-changing way. I’ve met really
cool people and have had a very exciting few
years. I’ve seen the world and I’m ready to see
more!
FA: How did you land the role of Meliorn in
Shadowhunters?
JH: I auditioned! It was quite a process. I did
about five different auditions. It lasted about
a month, and then I got the call and started
shooting the show that same week.
Did you have an idea on how you wanted to
portray the character before you got the part?
I’m glad my auditions took that long because I
really had time to delve into the Mortal Instruments
world. It’s funny but the first time I read
the breakdown to send a tape for my first Shadowhunters
audition I only read that it was taking
place in a police department (I was reading
for Alaric at first) and I assumed the show was
about cops! It was only when I got my second
audition in person the week after (for Raphael)
that I had had time to realize “Oh yes the Mortal
Instruments! I’ve seen those books before,
and the movie, and the fan art and the fan fiction”
so I went nuts and delved into the lore of
the Shadowhunters and the DownWorld. It was
only when I was called back for Meliorn that my
tingles really started. I knew this was meant for
me, and as the cast was being announced on
Instagram and Twitter. I knew they would be
important people in my life. I still did the work
and felt the nerves and everything but things
worked out in a great way. I knew I would play
an elf-like being one day.
FA: What has been the most interesting and
most fun part about playing this character for
you?
JH: I love that he is about 147 years old and
so has gained enough wisdom and perspective
on life. Seelies (faeries) in general are eternal
beings because time works differently in their
realm. So it gives them a sort of upper-hand
and broader perspective of humanity and their
drama. They definitely feel superior to humans
and Shadowhunters haha, which is fun to play.
Any magical and strange being is always fun
to play. That’s what I love to do. Also being an
epic faerie-knight with super developed fighting
and natural magic skills help.
