WELCOME
Dear Patrons,
Welcome to the Summer season
programme at The SandPit Theatre,
which promises to be an exciting season
offering something for everyone with
a great variety of shows, events and
workshops.
We are very excited to announce our
partnership with a local performing arts
group, Act Now, who have been running
for over 20 years. We are ready to shout
“Wildcats” as Act Now and the SandPit
Theatre present a weeks performance
course for 7 - 18 year olds to perform in
High School Musical Junior!
We are also host to some fascinating
free community lectures provided by the
Alban TSA featuring Olympic Wheelchair
Basketball player and broadcaster Ade
Adepitan and many more. Please go to

We are currently fundraising for a large
renovation project that we hope to
complete from 2019 - 2021. If you would
like to know more about this or would

THE LITTLE DIGGERS
The ‘Little Diggers’ is the
SandPit’s scheme for
children, with theatre
performances, workshops
and film screenings aimed
specifically for 3-8yr olds
and their families.
We aim to engage young people in the
arts through affordable, exciting events
they can enjoy, and often participate
in. The scheme includes performances
from a wide variety of styles - ranging
from nationally renowned theatre
companies to local intimate
performances from Hertfordshire’s best
theatre makers, well-known film
releases to small arts and crafts
workshops. Participation can vary
from meeting the theatre characters
for a photograph, to making their own
puppets to take home after a puppetry
performance, or getting stuck in with
our themed crafts workshops!
Little Digger shows are recognisable by
the logo which is displayed on the
posters, making it easy for parents to
see which performances are suitable.
MEMBERSHIP
For £30 a year you can become a
member of the Little Diggers receiving;
- A membership card and welcome
letter
- Priority Booking, and access to
early-bird discounts when applicable
- No booking fee on all Little Diggers
shows
- Monthly newsletter with advance
notice of future shows
- A free juicebox for your child at each
performance they attend

This year sees new works by Anthony Missen (Company
Chameleon), Didy Veldman, Jose Agudo as well as a
re-staging of Liz Aggiss’ History Repeating… created for
mapdance. The mixed repertory offers dance, theatre,
intricate lyrical choreography, fast-paced athleticism and
wry humour. With appeal to both seasoned dance viewers
and audiences new to dance, it is of particular relevance to
dance students at GCSE, BTEC and A-level.

Composer Concert
Thursday 13th June 1:30pm
This concert is an opportunity to hear some of
the work from our composers and
songwriters at Sandringham School and will
feature a range of chamber and vocal music.
The event is a great opportunity to support the
aspiring talents of our young musicians.
Bring your sandwiches and enjoy your lunch to
the delights of Sandringham’s music students.

Understanding Adolescence –
Positive Strategies for Parents
Monday 24th June 7:30pm
This talk will discuss the challenges of living with
young people, and introduce successful
strategies for managing behaviour. It will invite
the audience to consider how thinking about
things from their child’s perspective can encourage
more collaborative conversations. It will
show parents how to adopt a more open, person
centred, communication style that uses active
listening, ensuring conversations can end with
parents feeling appreciated and
adolescents feeling more understood.

Hayley Star’s Dancing Stars return to us for their annual summer show. With dancing, cheerleading
and lots of fun this showcase is a great example of the joy dance brings to young people.

Act Now Academy Summer Showcase
Sunday 7th July 7pm
This year, Act Now Performing Arts Academy is celebrating its 20th anniversary with its biggest
showcase to date! Drawing influence from the smash hit film The Greatest Showman, the students
invite you to a night of spectacle – expect epic musical numbers, fantastic dance routines and the
immense talent on display from all of our students.

Work Experience here at The SandPit Theatre
Here at The SandPit Theatre we offer work experience to all young people looking for a week’s
work placement in the arts. During the placement you will take part in multiple activities varying
from training on equipment, operating lighting and sound, theatre maintenance and learning how
the day to day operations of the theatre work. This opportunity is open to all students from Year
10 through 13 and also includes students studying at college due to the nature of the work.

JULY
Sandringham School’s Open Evening
Tuesday 9th July 5:45pm until 8:45pm
Sandringham School’s annual Open Evening takes place on Tuesday 9th July 2019.
This is designed for families considering Sandringham School for September 2020 intake and
beyond. The headteacher will give four speeches at 6.00 p.m., 6.45 p.m., 7.30 p.m. and
8.15 p.m. Entrance will be by ticket obtained in advance from the school with some available
on the evening. The entire school will be open for viewing and tours will take place as usual.
Tickets: Tickets will be available soon for the Headteacher’s talk from the Box Office and Main
Reception at Sandringham School. Tickets are FREE for all talks.

NSG Summer Showcase
Saturday 3rd August 6:30pm
NSG present the work of their
Summer camp of dance, fun and
musical theatre in a showcase performed to
family, friends and invited guests.

We are introducing relaxed screenings across most of our films
What does a relaxed screening mean?
- The volume of the film is slightly lowered
- The low level lights are left on
- You are free to move about and make noise or leave at any point
- You are welcome to bring your own food & drink

Why is the Reindeer here? Shouldn’t it be with Santa and all the other Reindeer? Is it lost? Without
the other Reindeer and Santa’s sleigh, how will it ever get home? Join Darcey on her epic
adventure to get her new Reindeer friend back to Lapland where he belongs and discover the true
meaning of Christmas along the way…
A magical Chritmas show coming this year to The SandPit Theatre performed by Hodgepodge
Theatre Company, this show is a relaxed family show aimed at ages 3+, perfect to bring a bit of
affordable Christmas magic to the season!

GETTING HERE AND PARKING
Location: The SandPit Theatre is
situated in the grounds of
Sandringham School, approximately a
1.5 mile walk from St.Albans City train
station and the town centre where there
are several bus routes.
Parking: The school car park is
available and free, but does get very
busy. There are 2 main car parks, the
first entered by the main gate, the second
entered by the top gate (marked
deliveries) and an overflow car park to
the rear of the theatre. If the car park
is full, the majority of the surrounding
residential roads are all free parking.
ACCESSIBILITY
We aim to offer our disabled
customers the same experiences as all
other people.
Our front row is floor level and reserved
for customers with access
requirements. These seats can be
purchased over the phone or in person.
Customers can also buy a companion’s
seat at the same rate.
For non-allocated performances, if you
have a disability that requires specific
seats, please do contact us. For
allocated performances we reserve the
front two rows for those with access
needs and a companion.

The maximum booking fee you will be
charged when booking online is £4.50.
If paying by cheque, please make it
payable to Sandringham School.
OTHER INFORMATION
Reservations: We do not take
unpaid reservations, all tickets must be
paid for at the time of booking.
Refunds and exchanges: We do
not offer refunds unless a show is
cancelled or sold out where we
offer a buy back system. Tickets can
be exchanged at our discretion to an
alternative performance of the same
production, subject to availability. A fee
will apply for this service.
Babes in Arms: The SandPit
Theatre encourages access for all. An
infant aged below 2 years, will need
to be accomodated on the parent or
carer’s lap as no seat will be allocated.
There will be no charge for this.
Children over the age of 2 should have
a paid concession ticket or full price
where no concessionary rate is offered.
Postage: Optional postage is
included on all bookings unless
otherwise stated. Your tickets will be
sent out to you via Second Class Royal
Mail. If you do not receive your tickets
within 7 working days please call us on
